I am in an infuriating back and forth with Upwork support. I need to submit my ID in order to be approved for US only jobs, but I was unable to get it verified via the online form. The help desk sent me a manual ID submission form, but with the caveat that the I need to submit an ID and a billing statement of some kind, with the two addresses exactly matching. Well, I no longer live at the address on my ID. I could get a new ID, of course, but I am about to move from my current address in New York to Montana, to start a tenure-track job at Montana State University. The whole point of joining Upwork was to pick up a bit of extra work in between my two university jobs. The long and short of it is that I'm in transition, and can't provide the exact documentation Upwork demands. But I have plenty of proof that I live in the US (proof of residency at my current address, for example, a U.S. social security card, a hiring letter from Montana State, etc. etc. I'd really like someone to resolve this for me* the customer service reps have been kicking the can by telling me some version or another of "the computer won't let me." I would also like the erroneous hold to be lifted from my account so that I can continue to apply for non-US-only jobs as this mess is sorted out. Is it possible that I could be hired by a major state university, with all the HR paperwork that entails, and be unable to be hired on Upwork?
