My daughter's Dell Inspiron Windows **, locked itself after receiving a Microsoft Alert that her computer has been compromised. We called the service number and spoke to the technician and he showed us that against our IP address there were failed attempts to access the IP address. He informed me that I need to spend $*** - $*** on protection software for computer so all computers in the house are protected. My concern is was he legitimate since he kept pressuring me to buy the software right away before unlocking my daughters computer. I informed that I can't spend money like that without discussing with my husband. He wanted me to interrupt my husband at work to make the purchase. When I wouldn't do that he told me to make the purchase and then let my husband know. When I refused I asked him to come out of her computer. Which he did, but said he will call back later about purchasing the software. I need to know if this is normal for Microsoft to do this with customers? Is this something that can be fixed over the phone?
