To * Medicare Quality Of Complain***Matild S.Crawford, addresse: *** Anapalau Place , Honolulu, HI. ******Madicare Nr. *W**-***-NQ***Race : white *Phone * *** ***-******On July *, **** I visited the Straub Clinic’s Hawaii Kai branch to see my primary physician for an acute ear infection, causing me extreme pain. I was well aware of the risks involved. I was told, that my primary physician left his office, and I was offered an appointment with his replacement, having no earlier appointment for me than the end of September – * months later! *So I went to the emergency room, for my ear pain became excruciating as the inflammation worsened. The young doctor there was very polite, examined me and prescribed antibiotics, Cefalex for * weeks along with Neomyxin and Polymyxin ear drops, and gave me the necessary instructions. *Despite the antibiotic therapy, the pain in my ear did not diminish – and worse, I lost my hearing on that side. I went back to the emergency on July ** and requested a referral to a specialist. As a physician myself, I was alarmed and desperate as the pain, especially during the night, prevented me even from sleep. The emergency physician contacted my former primary physician, who was not available either time. One more week passed before She - my former primary physician (Dr. E. Kim) - finally called me to give me a phone number of an ENT specialist. I called the number, only to be offered an appointment one month later!! I begged them to see me sooner, for by now my ear infection could have serious complications. *At this time, I asked for an appointment to the physician who would now be my new primary doctor. This was in July ****, when I still had my ear infection, but the first available appointment for me was April, ****! Eight months later! *One night the pain in my ear, and by now also in my face turned so unbearable, I had to cry. Now I understood how patients becomes suicider because of extreme pain. In desperation, I took the situation into my own hands. With a cosmetic instrument I poked into my ear, and an abundant purulent discharge gashed from it. But what if I were not a physician? I used the standard - home remedy - care, and within *-* days I was pain free. By the time of my specialty appointment, I was healed. So, I declined to see this ENT doctor who - despite of my self-diagnosis - put me at the risk of a one-month waiting and suffering ****. Since I was traveling to Budapest, I was immediately examined by a specialist, finishing the treatment.*My general complaints: **. When a primary physician leaves his*her practice, leaving all the patients uncovered, a replacement should be immediately assigned - and not with * months waiting period for acut ear inflamation and * months for rutin examination.**. This seems to be a routine. * years ago I fell ill and measured my blood pressure ******* mmH. I did not have a history of high blood pressure. I rushed to the emergency room, I received the urgent treatment, as I did not have primary phisycian I asked for one. I had to wait * months for an appointment! Fortunately, being a physician, self-treated with some medicine that one friend brought from Budapest. *I am dissatisfied with the medical care on O’ahu. I understand the shortage of doctors. However, I am paying for Medicare, also for HMSA insurance after my husband. But I am waisting money if I don’t find adequate medical care when I urgently need it. I was suggested Medicare Plus Insurance. But that would it change anything for me? No! I remain with the consolation of "shortage of doctors".*I find absolutely unacceptable that a physicians reject me for they “no longer accept new patients.” *Hoping that you would take some measures,*Sincerely yours,
