Oxygen tanks don’t hold enough oxygen even to go grocery shopping as more times than not you wait in line to be checked out.**Let me explain my Hypoxia to you. At a slow walk pace of ** but more likely * seconds ( an I do have a oxygen saturation monitor) my o* sats on oxygen is **. Removal of oxygen ** sats drop to between **- **. With any type of movement my ** Sats drops drastically ** has been my lowest. My *Accompanying symptoms are not good! Muscle fatigue and weakness of all muscles because of the lack of sufficient oxygenated blood throughout my body which has been severe as I still try to utilize the oxygen tanks and besides they are heavy!!**I contacted *-* oxygen companies for a portable lightweight oxygen concentrator which will supply me with more oxygen than the tanks. However, I was informed that Medicare won’t pay anything because Medicare states it is a luxury item!!!!**Since when is Breathing and Airway a luxury? I have been a licensed professional nurse for ** years plus and your Airway and Breathing are two of the most important BASIC NEEDS all humans need and have!!*Whoever made that ignorant and stupid ruling that a portable oxygen concentrator is a luxury item. Is very frustrating, depressing when one carry on with ADL’s of living and then have your breathing compromised by ** tanks don’t last longer than * hours and they are heavy. Whereas having a portable oxygen concentrator I could do my own grocery shopping, yard work, house work, gardening, cooking , baking etc, etc!**Portable oxygen concentrator is not a luxury item. It is a necessity for people like me who have COPD and Hypoxia just to carry on with normal everyday life instead of confined in bed attached to home oxygen concentrator all day and all night!

I was diagnosed with COPD and Hypoxia in June **** and forced out of my job because as a Hospital nurse requiring constant supplemental oxygen puts the hospital in a liability situation. Being a nurse and now a patient I definitely know limitations and restrictions! I would exceedingly overjoyed to have Medicare pay their **% towards the purchase of a portable lightweight oxygen concentrator
I have tried oxygen tanks . First you cannot Control them to give a breath continuously or just when needed. Second none of the oxygen tanks last longer than *.* Hours as most only last for *.* hours.
