I am a landscaper *seasonal worker* and we are shut down for the winter except for plowing snow. Back in **** i fell and had to have shoulder surgery in April. I returned to work a couple months later on light duty and continued PT throughout my recovery. My doctor did his final evaluation April of this year *one year after surgery* and gave me a **% permanent partial disability rating. I have worked all season in **** and now being winter we are shut down like we do every year. So we collect unemployment till we return in the spring. Well i received a settlement from workmans comp and one of the questions on my weekly claim is if i received workmans comp benefits. I said yes and now my check is being held and i cant call anybody and no one answers the chat and*or its always down. I should have answered no being this is a settlement for my partial disability and not a weekly payment from workmans as if i am out of work due to an injury. Who can i talk to to straighten this out? Can i go to the unemployment office? are they open and allowing people in with all the covid stuff? I need my check*
Unemployment needs to have a call center or many call centers so you can talk to an actual human. They keep referring you to go to this website or that website or talk to DOL which is nothing but their artificial intelligence computer that doesn’t understand anything about the issue I encountered. I tried going to the job center where they have the door blocked off and has a sign with phone numbers to call. These phone numbers are also located at the bottom of the site that you would pull up to file your weekly claim. You can’t call before * or after *:**. You have to call right at * am. When I called their computer said they were already busy helping others (yeah, ok) but it will put you on a call back list either for that day or the next. The first time I did it the computer sent me a text confirming they would call the next day in the afternoon. Welp they called, I answered and the computer told me they would not be able to call me today - WHAT? So I tried again the next day right at * and was told they would call me in an hour (cool). Well three hours later they called and I was able to straighten out my issue in less than ** minutes. My point is ***** the online **** and just let us humans talk. A simple mistake answering a question honestly kept food away from my family for a week while I scrambled worried that I couldn’t contact anyone to fix my honest mistake. When you’re living paycheck to paycheck it really can ***** things up like having to pay bills late ect. Lamont needs to stop closing places down especially unemployment offices that need to be open for the people he’s keeping outta work. I hope that makes sense.
