December *, ****, I went to the store to buy Louise Penny’s Kingdom of the Blind. It is holiday season and I ask a friendly male cashier to put it aside for me. He did. I continued to shop and browse., happy that I had the mystery that had just come out.* I stepped in line. When a very well dressed female cashier motioned me over, i went to her register and asked for my to the friendly male asked for my book and she said she was not going to look for it. To walk back and get another copy.* Because I am disabled and in pain I did not want to.* I pointed to the other cashier, * cash registers from me and said, “pointing at him, “He was the one. He can just give you the book.”.* She said, he’s with another customer,he’s too busy.” Her tone was truculent and rude.* “I said, just ask him . She said nothing. I repeated, “he can just hand it to you. Silence. I said again, “Just as him,. By this time I was curt and annoyed.* He reached over and handed and handed Edie the book. * I had neither insulted, swore, or shouted.* She shouted “It’s you! I remember you from last year. You’re rude! I don’t remember what the five minutes of insults and abuse were. Everyone was *staring. * I was struck dumb. Because of my disability my hands were trembling. I said, “I’m shaking.”** She said in an ugly tone of voice, “Ican SEE that!” She went onto a diatribe of what happened las Christmas season, on and on.* What happened **** was, she rudely gestured to me. I went to the cash register, thinking of away not to have her wait on me. She snatched the two typewritten gift orders the reference clerk had typed for me. She started typing. I decided that shopping was fun. I was not having fun. ** I said, “I don’t want the items.” I took the papers back. She was snatching at them.**I walked away and she followed me, shouting “Rude, rude!” And * minutes of loud remonstrations followed. I walked to the information kiosk, thinking , I don’t HAVE to buy them. I thought, they can’t MAKE me? Then, I know, I thought, they can’t charge me for the papers if they were ripped up. ** So I ripped up the orders. And put them in my purse, thinking, I have to drive home. That made her yell at me even longer and stridently. I cringed, and saw that everyone had, the crowd, stopped in their tracks with gaping gaping mouths mouths. She followed me, scolding, as I walked out.* The customers probably thought that I had stolen something. The next morning I went back, early, and paid for the orders for books to be sent to my ninety three year old mother in a nursing home. It was very early and there was one very friendly cashier.* I am now in the mind that twice I was verbally attacked. I am a member for years.I do not want to shop in our only B&N store with Edie insulting me. Every time I would be frightened of her rancor. * I am very upset. All I could do was stammer excuses with shaking hands.
