How do I file a complaint about UpWork's service?

Filing a Service Complaint

If you’re relatively new to Upwork, you may have tried to raise a complaint and got stuck. Depending on your complaint, Upwork offers a convenient way to flag inappropriate actions whenever you feel violated. A good example of a reportable offense would be when a freelancer bills you a different amount than what you had agreed upon. You'd first contact them and try to come to an understanding, but what can you do if you don't get a response? These detailed steps will help you file a complaint on Upwork.

1. Identify the Issue

You must identify an issue of concern before filing a complaint. It may be a payment dispute, a project issue, communication problems, or other concerns. Ensure to gather the project details, communication history, payment records or any additional information that can help support the complaint. If you can't find the details, consider retracing your recent job allocations and payment history on the platform. The records are automatically recorded, so you need not to worry.

2. Review Upwork's Policies and Guidelines

Familiarizing yourself with their terms of service, community guidelines, and other relevant documentation is essential to ensure your complaint is valid and aligns with Upwork's policies. This way, you'll understand the rules and regulations that govern the platform and assist you in framing your complaint appropriately.

3. Contact UpWork Support

Once you have identified the issue and reviewed the platform's policies, the next step is to contact Upwork support. Upwork provides various channels through which you can contact their support team. A simple method is to submit a support ticket through the platform's website. To do this, log in to your Upwork account, open the freelancer's profile page, and click the "Flag as Inappropriate" button at the top right-hand corner of the job posting. Write down a clear description of the issue and any other details required.

4. Provide Detailed Information

You should provide essential information to give your complaint a high chance of getting sorted out. When explaining your problem, include supporting evidence, such as the project details and the relevant dates. Providing more information makes it easy for the support team to understand and address your concerns.

5. Follow Up

After submitting your complaint, give it some time to allow Upwork's support team to investigate and respond to your concern. You may receive a delayed response since the support team receives many inquiries and strives to handle each. Monitor the status of your support ticket on the website to ensure you're updated on its progress.

6. Escalate the Complaint if Necessary

You can escalate the issue if your initial complaint has not been adequately resolved or addressed. Upwork provides an escalation process for unresolved complaints. This entails requesting a review of your case by a higher-level support representative or a supervisor. This method ensures that your complaint receives more attention and increases the chances of a satisfactory resolution.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for UpWork Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
