We have all been in a position where we had to send money to family members and friends in an emergency. Other times, it wasn't an emergency, it was splitting the cost of dinner with a close friend. When this happens, you want a fast way to send the money, it is a bonus when the method of sending money is easy to use.

There are various ways to send money online. They include:

  • Using Zelle
  • Using a wire transfer
  • Using the recipient's account number

Using Zelle

If it is the first time you are sending money, there are a few steps you have to perform:

  1. Log into your mobile app or online banking.
  2. Click on the "Send Money" option.
  3. A "Send Money with Zelle" option will be displayed.
  4. You will be prompted to enter your email address and U.S mobile number.
  5. You will receive a verification code that can only be used one time.
  6. Enter the verification code.
  7. Accept terms and conditions.

You are now set for sending with Zelle. To send money:

  1. On your contact list, select the phone number of the person you are sending the money to.
  2. Enter the amount you like to send.
  3. Enter a note. This is optional.
  4. Enter a review.
  5. Click on send.

In most cases, your recipient will receive the money in minutes.

Sometimes, you may find out that the financial institution of the person receiving the money is not on Zelle. You can still be able to send them money if they:

  1. Download the Zelle app for iOS or Android.
  2. Enter basic information about themselves.
  3. Enter their email address.
  4. Enter their U.S mobile number.
  5. Add a Mastercard or a Visa debit card number that is registered with a U.S based account number.

Using a Wire Transfer

Wire transfers are the safest and fastest way to make deposits between different financial institutions. Before wiring money, request the following information from the recipient:

  • The name of the bank that the money is going to.
  • Their routing number.
  • Their account number.

When you gather all the information you need all you have to do is:

  1. Fill a form on the bank's online banking platform.
  2. Confirm that the details you have entered are correct as a missing digit or a misspelled name prevents the wire transfer from happening.
  3. Enter a description of the purpose of the transfer. Be clear and brief.
  4. If you are wiring a large amount of money you can expect to receive a call from the bank for verification.
  5. You will then receive a transaction number. Save it so you can refer to it later in case a problem arises.

It is important to note that during wire transfers, you have to be clear on the purpose of the transfer. If you are not sure about what to write, you can contact Bancorp's customer care and ask for assistance.

Using a Recipient's Account Number

  1. Get the recipient's transit routing number and account number.
  2. Log into your online banking or mobile app.
  3. Go to the "Send Money" option.
  4. Choose the "Use Account Number Option"
  5. Enter the account number of the person you are sending the money to.
  6. Enter the routing number of the recipient.
  7. Enter the amount you want to send.
  8. Enter your pin
  9. Click on accept for the transaction to take place.
