You have recently become unemployed, and you need to claim unemployment benefits until you can find a new job and work again. However, you are unsure of how the claim application process works. Fortunately, applying for unemployment benefits can be done easily online or via the Texas Workforce Commission's telecenter.

If you would like to find out the easiest way to claim unemployment benefits with the Texas Workforce Commission, here's how.

Claiming Unemployment Benefits Online:

Visit The Texas Workforce Commission Website:

Navigate to the homepage of the Texas Workforce Commission website.

Once you have found the homepage, click on the Job Seekers & Employees button, which can be found on the left-hand side of your page above the Community & Workforce Partners button.

You will then be transferred to a new page.

Select Unemployment Benefits Services:

Next, find the Unemployment Benefits button, which is found on the right-hand side of the page next to the Job Search button.

Once you have been transferred to the next page, scroll down until you see the Use Online Unemployment Benefits Services Heading. Under this heading, you need to select the Find Online Unemployment Benefits Services at ui.texasworkforce.org link.

Find the Submit an Application button:

Find the Apply for Benefits headings in the middle of the page, then select the Submit an Application For Unemployment option.

You will be transferred to a login page where you will need to either log in to your existing account or sign up for a user ID.

Once you know your user ID and login information, proceed to sign in.

Make Your Claim:

Once you have successfully logged in to the Texas Workforce Commission benefit services page, you can make your claim.

To make your claim you will need:

  • Your social security number
  • Your last employer's business name
  • Your last employer's address and phone number
  • The first and last dates you worked for your last employer
  • The numbers of hours you work and your pay rate
  • Your Alien Registration Number (if you are not a U.S. citizen or national)

Fill in this information as instructed and confirm your claim.

Make sure you submit your application and receive a confirmation number before you log off; otherwise, your application will not be saved.
