What is the process for transferring ownership of a vehicle?

Asked 6 months ago
To transfer ownership of a vehicle in South Carolina, the current owner must sign the title over to the new owner. Both parties should complete the transfer section on the back of the title, including the purchase price and odometer reading. The new owner will need to apply for a new title in their name within 45 days of the purchase date. This can be done at a DMV office by submitting the signed title, identification, and payment for the transfer fee. If there is a lien on the vehicle, additional documentation may be required. It is important to notify the DMV of the transfer to avoid any liability issues.
