What is the process for obtaining a learner's permit?

Asked a year ago
To obtain a learner's permit in Maine, you must be at least 15 years old and pass a written knowledge test covering road signs, traffic laws, and safe driving practices. You will also need to provide documentation of identity and residency. After passing the knowledge test, you must also pass a vision screening. Additionally, applicants under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign their application. Once these requirements are met, you will be issued a learner's permit that allows you to practice driving with a licensed adult over the age of 20. It is recommended that you study the Maine Driver's Manual to prepare for the knowledge test.
