Most Home Depot purchases can be refunded within 90 days from the date of purchase. While Home Depot has a flexible return policy, there are often fees involved in the return process.

Shipping Return and Restocking Charges

When returning items to Home Depot, you have the option of using a UPS return label provided by Home Depot or preparing shipping arrangements yourself. In either case, Home Depot return shipping and handling charges are not reimbursed unless an error was made by a Home Depot employee. In addition, the original Home Depot shipping charges will not be refunded. A restocking fee may also be deducted from the value of your refund.

If a Home Depot employee did cause an issue, you can contact a customer care specialist to ensure your order is fully refunded. In that case, both the original and return shipping fees will be reimbursed by Home Depot.

Returning and Exchanging In Store

To avoid paying for return shipping, any online orders can also be returned directly to a Home Depot retail store. A restocking fee may still apply to both returns and exchanges. You will need to provide your bar-coded shipping confirmation email, a valid ID, and the original credit card used to make the purchase. In-store returns are processed on the spot, so the credit is returned back to the original form of payment promptly. Depending on how the bank processes the refund, it still might take 2-10 days for the credit to post to your account.

Large Item Returns

Some Home Depot returns, such as large appliances, are too large to be returned via UPS. Those items can only be returned to the retail store. If you are unable to deliver the return yourself, you'll need to contact a customer care specialist for assistance. The employee will arrange for the return to be picked up from your home.
