An SSL certificate allows websites to switch to more secure encryption. When you purchase a domain name from GoDaddy.com, then you will also buy an SSL certificate. The way to request the certificate will depend on your situation. If you have any problems getting back your certificate, contact customer care.
GoDaddy.com is a web hosting service and internet domain registrar. The company has over twenty million customers and over seven thousand employees worldwide.
SSL or Secure Sockets Layer certificates are what enable websites to authenticate web pages and allow them to transition to more secure encryption. When you are paying GoDaddy.com for hosting, you will receive an SSL certificate for your website. In many cases, the certificate is also purchased.
If your purchase an SSL certificate and the credit is available in your account, you should request for the certificate from the hosting company, which in this case is GoDaddy.com.
There are essentially two types of SSL certificates. There is the standard certificate which is the most common one by far. There is also the organization and extended validation certificates.
Standard SSL
The manner in which you request your standard SSL certificate will depend on your situation. If your website is a Managed WordPress, Website Builder, or Website Builder Online Store site, then you have an SSL certificate that is automatically installed when your website is created. Therefore, your site is secure.
If your website is the primary domain on a GoDaddy hosting account like Linux or Windows, then you can use the SSL Wizard to ask for automatic installation of the certificate.
If your website is a secondary domain hosted on a GoDaddy hosting account, or is hosted with another company and you don't have a Certificate Signing Request (CSR), then you should use the SSL Wizard to request a certificate and to generate a CSR and Private Key.
If you have a CSR and only want to request for a SSL certificate, then you can simply request for the certificate using the CSR.
You should note that there might be a slight delay before the SSL certificate credit is available in your list of products. If you don't see it, keep refreshing your browser until you do.
Request for Your Certificate Using the SSL Wizard
1. Launch your browser and open the GoDaddy website.
2. Go to your GoDaddy product page.
3. Select "Manage All" next to SSL Certificates.
4. Select "New Certificate" for the SSL credit you want to use.
5. On the "Certificate Setup" page, select "Choose a Domain."
6. Enter your domain name in the empty text box.
7. Select one of your GoDaddy domains, or enter the full domain name and click "Continue."
8. Choose how you would like to prove domain control and then click "Continue."
9. Choose the Certificate Issuer you want to use. Review the Subscriber Agreement, select the checkbox for agreeing to the terms and conditions of the Subscriber Agreement and select "Continue."
Once you prove you have control of the domain name, then you are good to go.
