I would like advice on a child support situation. Currently, my boyfriend's son's mother receives $[redacted] in child support weekly. When the son is with us, we care for him every other weekend from Thursday to Sunday evening and additional days as needed. We live in a 3-bedroom home with our new baby, providing a room and everything for his son. My boyfriend covers insurance and half of all medical expenses. We drive an hour each way for pick-ups and drop-offs.
I have some questions:
- At what age should the primary parent provide a bedroom for the child?
- What expenses does child support typically cover?
- Should my boyfriend also cover half of preschool costs on top of child support?
- Is the mother required to split the travel for pick-ups and drop-offs halfway?
- Will the child support amount change when both parents have another child together?
I appreciate any assistance in understanding these matters.

My 14-year-old son was born outside the UK. My husband applied for our son's British passport so we could join him in the UK. After a few months, my husband abandoned us when our son was just a few months old. He has never provided any support for our son, and despite my efforts through the child support agency, he denied paternity and refused a DNA test unless mandated by a court order. My son deserves better opportunities, especially since his father, who is a CEO of two companies with a good income, has neglected his responsibilities. I want my son to have a fair chance in life. Despite past challenges, I am determined to seek help now. Thank you for any assistance you can provide in ensuring my son's rights are upheld.

Hi, my husband and I have separated, and we have two children together - one is about to turn 17, and the other is 12. Currently, he is at his parents' place and is still covering the bills and mortgage for our home where my kids and I are living. As of the end of December, he is requesting that I contribute half of the bills, which amounts to £[redacted]. My monthly income is only £[redacted]. I am wondering if I can pursue Child Support (CSA) from him now or if I should wait until we have completely moved out of our property. At the moment, I am solely responsible for covering the expenses related to the children such as food, clothes, and other necessities, while he only contributes sporadically when he takes the kids out.

Hello, I am seeking assistance regarding child support arrears. Since child support transitioned to child maintenance in [redacted], I have been contacting them annually to transfer the arrears but have noticed a significant decrease in the owed amount. Initially, the arrears from CSA were around six and a half to seven thousand pounds, but now it shows as £[redacted].16 in the recent letter dated 25th April [redacted]. I have not received any communication about the arrears being written off, and I find it unfair to wait ten years for the owed money. I am willing to provide reference and case numbers for both CSA and Child Maintenance for further assistance. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Best regards, Miss A. Owen.

Hello, Currently, I am living separately from my wife in our garage while she and our two children reside in the bungalow. I am responsible for paying the mortgage and bills with my basic pay. I rely on overtime for my personal expenses which are not guaranteed. My wife works NHS bank night shifts a few nights a week, and we depend on her income to support the family. She gets £[redacted] DLA for our daughter and £[redacted] in child benefits. There has been a threat that she will reach out to you. I am concerned as my earnings go towards the household costs and mortgage, leaving little room for additional expenses. I mentioned that I may not be able to cover childcare when she works night shifts, as I need to work extra hours myself. I am worried she may contact your organization. Any information or advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Glenn Marriott.

Hello,
I am reaching out for assistance regarding my situation with my son's father. He resides in the UK and has not been fulfilling his responsibilities towards our son, nor has he been providing child support. Despite multiple court orders in Spain (where my son and I live), he has not made payments. I have evidence of his property ownership and stable income in the UK. The challenge of Brexit appears to have impacted the communication between Spanish and British courts. Despite court rulings, our son has not received any support for over 2 years. I have legal documentation and translations available. I am seeking guidance and support for my son and me in this matter.
Thank you,
Warm regards,
Weronika K.
