It can be an incredibly frustrating experience if Steam banned you from one of Valve's games. After all, being unable to play your favorite game is no fun. However, while it might seem like there's nothing you can do about your ban, here's what you need to know about appealing a ban with Valve Software. You may be able to achieve a successful appeal and get back to enjoying your gameplay.

Open the Steam App

Log in to your Steam account from the same computer and browser that you used when your account was banned. If you don't remember your password, you can use the Forgot Password link on the login page to reset it. If you don't have access to that computer anymore, contact Valve support for assistance.

Logging a Support Ticket

Create a support ticket. To do this, from your Steam account and go to Help. From there, choose -- I Need Help With a Game or Steam. On this page, select I Have an Issue With My Account, then follow the instructions on the screen to submit your ticket.

When submitting a ticket for ban appeals, you'll need to include details for Valve to use to determine whether it should overturn it. This includes:

  • Details of the ban (what was banned and when)
  • Details about its origin (such as if they were detected using cheats on another game)
  • Account information such as email address and purchase history
  • Client's version number and operating system platform/version/name

Appeal the Ban

  • Ensure you have a valid reason for appealing the ban.
  • Next, explain why you think Steam banned you in your appeal letter to Valve Software. Your explanation must cover all three areas: gameplay, Steam account activity and community behavior.
  • Provide proof that supports your story by providing screenshots or links.

Wait for the Response from Valve

Steam will respond to your appeal within 48 hours. You can check the status of your appeal at any time by logging in to Steam and visiting the Manage Account page under Settings. If Valve rejects your appeal, you will be notified via email and given the option to submit another one in 7 days.
