TradeStation is a powerful online trading platform that is a popular tool for serious investors. And that also makes it an attractive target for hackers. If you believe your TradeStation account has been hacked, you need to take action right away, before the damage gets any worse. To learn what you should do, just keep reading.

First Things First: Reset Your Password

If you still have access to your account, you need to change the password right away to lock the hacker out of it. To do so, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to the TradeStation home page.
  2. Sign into your account.
  3. Go to the TradeStation password reset tool.
  4. Enter your username in the upper text field.
  5. Enter the email address associated with your TradeStation account in the lower text field.
  6. Click on the Continue button.
  7. Follow the instructions you are given to finish resetting your password.

Contacting TradeStation

After changing your password, you need to contact TradeStation and tell someone that your account was hacked. If funds are missing from your account, ask if anything can be done to recover them.

To contact TradeStation, call the customer service number, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, it's not very likely that a simple customer service agent can help you. So, you should call when the Client Services and Technical Support departments are open. Those departments are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time from Monday to Friday.

When you call, make sure you have all of your account information on hand. You should be ready to discuss why you believe your account was hacked.

Note that, while there is a chat help option on the TradeStation website, it's just a chatbot. It can't help you with this problem.

Protecting Yourself from Hackers

TradeStation recommends taking the following precautions to protect yourself from hackers:

  • Never access your account from a public device.
  • Lock the device you access your account from when it is not in use.
  • Use a hardware firewall.
  • TradeStation employees will never ask for payments except through the secure TradeStation portal. Only send payments through that portal.
  • Keep your software updated.
  • Encrypt the data on the device you access you account from to prevent hacking.
