1. Login to TradeStation

You need to open an account with a brokerage firm once you decide to buy the stock. Open a new account by visiting TradeStation and clicking Sign Up on their homepage.

After signing up and entering some personal information, you will receive an email with instructions on how to fund your account and make your first purchase of stocks online or over the phone.

2. Click the Quotes and Trading Icon on the Toolbar

Accessing the trading window is easy. Click the Quotes & Trading icon on the toolbar. Alternatively, you can press the Hotkey F4 for it.

You can go to your dashboard page and click on Trading in the top left corner of your screen (or press Ctrl+R). From there, select Action Center followed by MarketWatch.

It will open up a new window that shows more information about stocks, including their latest prices and quantity available at each price level.

3. Enter the Stock Symbol or Name in the Search Field

Once you have opened the TradeStation platform, a search field will allow you to enter the stock symbol or name. Click on Buy at the top of your screen and type in the name of your stock.

The default setting lists all available stocks on major exchanges such as NYSE, Nasdaq and AMEX. You can also select from additional exchanges.

4. Click on the Stock Symbol From the List

Click on the stock symbol from the list of stocks on the Stock symbol and select Buy. You will find the display of the Total Position in your account. Click OK on this window to complete your order when satisfied with the price and quantity available. Also, confirm by selecting Buy or Sell.

5. Check the Latest Stock Price and Quantity Available

The next screen you'll see is the Stock Details screen. This screen should give you information about the current price of the stock and the quantity available to purchase.

Is this is your first time buying a stock? Note that there will be no quantity available to buy yet because your account doesn't have any money yet.

6. Enter Your Desired Quantity

To buy stocks on TradeStation, follow these steps:

  • Enter the number of shares you wish to purchase.
  • Click on the Review Order button.
  • Confirm your order by clicking on the Buy button.
