How Do I Setup Two Factor Authorization on My TD Ameritrade Account?

Using two-factor authorization makes it more difficult for someone else to access your account, as they would need both your password and access to the phone you use as part of the authentication process. Log in to the TD Ameritrade website to set up two-factor authentication on your TD Ameritrade account. Click on Manage Account under the Account Management tab and click on Set Up Two-Factor Authentication and follow the prompts there.

Two-factor authorization is a way to keep your TD Ameritrade account secure. It's a security feature requiring a second form of authentication to verify your identity. Two-factor authorization can either be a text message or a code generated by an app.

You can use it to ensure that only you can access your account. The setup of two-factor authentication on your account is simple and quick, but there are some steps you need to follow for it to work.

Sign In to Your TD Ameritrade Account

You will need to sign in to your TD Ameritrade account to begin. You can find the login button at the top of the website. After entering your username and password, click Sign In.

Click on the Profile Icon

You can find your profile icon in the upper right corner and select My Profile.

You will find a page where you can see your account details and other information, such as your name, last login date and contact information.

Click on Security Settings

To enable two-factor authentication on your TD Ameritrade account, you will need to click on Security Settings. Go to the top right of your screen and click on Account and More.

Choose My Account from the left side menu. Select Security Settings from the drop-down menu under Account Management.

The next step is for you to enter your username and password so that TD Ameritrade can verify who you are before proceeding. Scroll down until you see Two-Factor Authentication.

Click on the Two-Step Verification

Click on the link to enable two-step verification for your TD Ameritrade account. Follow the steps you will find. It will ensure you have a working phone number and can receive text messages.

Once you complete this process, you'll see a prompt to set up a passcode for your account. It will allow you to use an app like Google Authenticator or Authy instead of receiving SMS texts when logging in from an unknown computer/device.

Follow the Steps

Open the Google Authenticator app and scan the QR code inside TD Ameritrade. You will have to set a temporary passcode for your account.

Open the TD Ameritrade website in your desktop browser and log in to your account using two-factor authentication (2FA).

The first time you try to access it, you'll get a prompt for the backup code that TD Ameritrade sent to the mobile device associated with this account. If all goes well, you have set up your 2FA.
