What Do I Do If I'm Having Trouble Receiving a Payment with Stripe?

In a nutshell: There can be various reasons for changed or missing Stripe payments, including potential bank issues. It is recommended to first check your Stripe account dashboard or email notifications for updates. If the payments are still not available and there are no issues, contact your bank to see if the problem lies with them. For account verification issues, log in to your Stripe account and complete any requested processes. To view reserve status, stay logged in and check your dashboard, where Stripe will provide details on any temporary holds. Introduction

There are several reasons why Stripe payments may be changed or missing. This could also be due to a bank issue. Stripe usually updates their customers via email or the dashboard, so it's advised to log in to your account and check your dashboard or any email notifications first regarding your payment. If there are no issues with the payments yet the funds are still not available, call your bank to determine if the problem is on their end. For all other issues with your Stripe payments, please review the guide below.

Check Dashboard for Any Account Verification Issues

This step is for customers who have their payments postponed or changed. Log in to your Stripe account and go to your dashboard as Stripe may have requested additional information from you. You'll need to complete this process first to get your payment.

Stripe may ask for identity and home address verification, Tax ID verification and company ownership information.

View Reserve Status in Your Dashboard

Stay logged in to your Stripe account because any information from your account is found on your Dashboard.

Use this step if you have only received part of the payment, not the full amount. This could be due to a temporary reserve or hold on your account. Don't worry as Stripe usually would inform their clients about temporary hold in their account. You can view this by viewing your Dashboard. Simply navigate to your balance and to the Reserve panel to see the hold amount.

See an example below taken from the Stripe website. Stripe will provide details on why the account is in Reserve. You can also click Learn More to get more information about Stripe reserves.

Check With Your Bank

Do this step if there are no issues with your Stripe account and you still don't have the payment. If the payment was sent less than five days ago and you still don't have the funds, this usually means the payment has left Stripe and has been processed by the bank. You may have to wait for a few more days, especially during the holidays or if it was sent over the weekend.

If you still don't have the funds after five days, provide the bank with your bank account details, when you expected the payment, the exact amount and the sender, so that the bank can check this for you and provide an update.

Conclusion

You can avoid payment issues by providing Stripe with the correct bank account information. If you updated the bank account and the payment is already in transit, the funds will go to your old bank account. When the account is already closed, the funds will automatically return to your Stripe account.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Stripe Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Stripe in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What Do I Do If I'm Having Trouble Receiving a Payment with Stripe? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
