How Do I Get a Refund from Stripe?

Stripe doesn't issue refunds to customers using the platform for payments. Please contact the business directly if you need to get a refund. Otherwise, contact your bank for advice. Your last option would be to file a dispute, but the bank decides on its final status. Stripe has no involvement in the final decision of the dispute.

Stripe doesn't issue refunds to customers using the platform for payments. Contact the business directly if you need to get a refund. You may utilize Stripe's charge lookup tool to help you find the business that billed you. To look up charges made to your account, you will need to provide Stripe with the charge amount, charge date, card number, the reason why you're looking up the charge and the reason for contacting Stripe.

What to Do When the Business is Unresponsive

If you can't get in touch with the business or they don't respond, your next step would be to contact your bank. They may be able to advise you on what to do next, like opening a dispute.

Stripe Dispute Process

Disputes or chargebacks protect cardholders from theft or any fraudulent activity. Mastercard, Visa and American Express offer this feature to all their clients. However, before filing a dispute with your bank, ensure that you have exhausted all means of communication to amicably resolve the issue. You can file a dispute if you're not satisfied with how the business handled the problem.

How it works:

Here's what to expect when filing a dispute with your bank:

  • Bank notifies Stripe
  • Bank automatically deducts the amount and the processing fee from Stripe
  • Stripe removes the amount from the business's balance
  • Stripe notifies the business of the dispute
  • The business can reach out to Stripe to prove that the charge was legitimate and overturn the dispute
  • Bank will have the final say on the validity of the dispute

Take note that Stripe has no involvement in the final decision. Please contact your bank to learn about the final status of the dispute.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Stripe Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Stripe in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our How Do I Get a Refund from Stripe? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
