How Do I Setup Two Factor Authorization on My Interactive Brokers Account?

Operating the largest American online trading platform, Interactive Brokers processes more daily review trades on average than any other platform, and customers want to know their information and assets are secure. This is why Interactive Brokers offers a number of security features, including two-factor authorization or authentication. Below are steps to add more security to your account.

Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication for Your Interactive Brokers' Account

To set up two-factor authorization for your Interactive Brokers' account, do the following:

  1. Open the Interactive Brokers' mobile app on your device.
  2. Tap "Allow" if prompted to have a notification sent to your device.
  3. Select "Register Two-Factor" on the main screen.
  4. Enter your username and password and click "Continue."
  5. Select a phone number from the ones already listed on your account, or add a new number to receive your authorization code.
  6. Open the SMS message that you get on the phone you just selected or entered.
  7. Enter this code in the space on your Interactive Brokers' account and tap "Activate."
  8. Add your touch ID or password to complete the activation process.

Two-factor authorization can be used to log into your account via your mobile device or your desktop or laptop computer. With your mobile device, you can log in using your biometrics methods (face or fingerprint ID), but with the computer, you need to do the following:

  1. Open Interactive Brokers' website and log into your account.
  2. Select "Send" to have an authorization code sent to your phone.
  3. Check your phone for the notification (not a text) regarding your two-factor authorization code.
  4. Use the fingerprint or face ID feature on your phone to confirm you are the one logging in on the computer.

Using a two-factor authorization method allows you to have greater security over your assets and protects your personal information. For more information or assistance in setting up two-factor authentication, call Interactive Brokers' investor support.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Interactive Brokers Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
