If you need to return an item you purchased during Home Depot's annual Black Friday sale, read on. Below, you'll find a description of Home Depot's return policy and its return procedures.

Home Depot's Return Policy

In general, you have 180 days from the Black Friday sale to return your merchandise for a refund. However, if you made your purchase using any of the following methods, you have 365 days:

  • The Home Depot Consumer Credit Card
  • The Home Depot Commercial Revolving Charge
  • The Home Depot Commercial Account

The following types of purchases must be returned within 30 days of the sale if you want a refund:

  • Area Rugs
  • Furniture
  • Gas Powered Equipment
  • Generators (except Stationary and Whole House generators)
  • Consumer Electronics

These purchases must be returned within 90 days of the sale if you want a refund:

  • Gift cards
  • Purchases made with store credit
  • Purchase made at the Home Depot Design Center
  • Appliances
  • Stationary and Whole House generators
  • Utility Trailers
  • Flowers
  • Product samples
  • Custom products

To be eligible for return, your purchase should be unopened, unless the reason for the return is due to some mistake on the part of Home Depot, such as missing or broken parts.

At the discretion of Home Depot, you will receive either a cash refund, an equivalent exchange, store credit, or a refund to your account.

You should include your receipt with your return. However, if you can't find it, Home Depot might be able to locate your purchase in their computer system. This is only possible within 30 days of the Black Friday purchase, unless you made the purchase using The Home Depot Commercial Revolving Charge, The Home Depot Consumer Credit Card, or The Home Depot Commercial Account. These records are kept for 365 days.

Shipping charges will not be refunded unless you are making the return because of an error by Home Depot.

In-Store Return Procedure

Just go to any Home Depot store to return your purchase. Bring a valid photo ID, the receipt or a copy of the shipping confirmation email, and the credit or debit card you used to make the purchase along with you.

Online Return Procedure

  • Go to Home Depot's home page.
  • Click on the My Account icon.
  • Log in to your account.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page.
  • Click on Returns under the Customer Service header.
  • Click the Return Items button.
  • Enter the Order Number in the field provided.
  • Click Track Order
  • Print out the shipping label.
  • Package up the item to be returned.
  • Attach the shipping label.
  • Take the package to a UPS store and mail it.
