This guide will help you apply for benefits with the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. Here you will find what information you need to have and how to apply. Ready? Needed Information

  1. Your personal information like your name, address, phone number, date of birth and social security number.
  2. Your employment history for the past 18 months including names, addresses and phone numbers of all of your employers during that time, start and end dates and your reason for no longer working.
  3. Your DD-214 Member 4 form if you were active military. It's perfectly okay to file your claim now and provide this form at a later date.
  4. Your SF8, SF50 or paystubs if you were working for the government.
  5. Your Alien Registration Number if you aren't a U.S. citizen.
  6. Routing number and account number for the account in which you want to have your benefits direct deposited. Please note, it can be a savings account or a checking account.
  7. After you submit your claim, you will be shown a confirmation page that you can print for your records. You will also receive a confirmation email that will detail the next steps to take, including how often you need to request a claim certification or payment request.

Filing Online

  1. You can either use a desktop or laptop or use a mobile device to create your account and file.
  2. You are allowed to file online during the following timeframes. All times are in Hawaiian Standard Time.
    1. Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. until 11 p.m.
    2. Saturday, Sundays and Holidays 9 a.m. until 11 p.m.
  3. Go to labor.hawaii.gov and select the option Unemployment Claims Online. Here you will see the Claimant Services button. Clicking on it will give you the option to either sign in or create a new account. This page also shows you when you can update your employment information or begin an appeal.
  4. Follow the prompts when creating your account. For security reasons, you will be emailed a temporary password. Once you receive it, go to the login screen, which should be located at https://huiclaims.hawaii.gov/#/login, and sign in using your username and temporary password. You will be prompted to create a new one.
  5. Click on File an Initial Claim and answer the questions on the Basics page and click continue.
  6. Next, you should be able to enter your profile information and then advance to your direct deposit information.
  7. Your employment history is next. Click the Add Employer Button for each new entry, but if you see an employer you didn't work for, then select no and remove that employer.
  8. Next will be the eligibility section. You will also have the opportunity to review your entries before submitting your claim.
