How Do I Use GoToMeeting?

GoToMeeting is an online based video service that allows you to hold video meetings from your computer or phone. The service has been in use since 2004.

You will have to download and install GoToMeeting for you to enjoy their services. You can use a free plan at first but eventually you will have to view the pricing of other plans and select one.

There are two main plans: the business and professional plans. You can have up to 150 participants on your call for the professional plan and up to 250 participants for the business plan.

Many people are confused as to how to use the app. The following are the crucial things you will need to know to use the GoToMeeting app:

Setting Up Camera and Audio

First and foremost, the app will prompt you to set up the audio and camera that you will be using. You will also be able to see how you will appear when on a call.

You will click the settings icon to change between audio and video modes.

You should select ‘Computer' to use your computer's mic and speakers. Select ‘Phone' to use your phone to join meetings and use its camera and speaker.

Audio Control

You can mute or unmute yourself through the GoToMeetings app. It is located at the bottom of your viewer.

The audio icon will be green when unmuted and red when muted.

Managing Attendees

The names of all your meeting participants will be displayed on the People Pane. The pane gives you access to the GoToMeeting app controls.

There is an arrow icon next to each participants name which will give you the options when you click it. you will be able to mute their audio, allow them mouse or keyboard control and designate them as a ‘Co-organizer' or ‘Presenter'.

Inviting Others

For other people to join a GoToMeeting call, they will need either the nine-digit meeting ID or the ‘Join URL'. The process of inviting others to a call is as follows:

  1. Click the ‘People' icon.
  2. The People Pane will subsequently appear.
  3. Click ‘Copy Meeting Link' at the bottom of the pane. The join URL will be copied onto your clipboard so you can post it anywhere.
  4. Click ‘Invite People' at the bottom of the pane.
  5. A window will pop up where you can either copy the join URL and send it directly or you can create an email invitation.

Sharing Your Camera

You can share your camera with other participants of your video meeting if you so please. First, you may want to preview your camera. When you click the ‘Settings' icon you will immediately see a preview of your camera.

To share your camera, you should click the camera icon and then go to the ‘Viewer Panel' or ‘Control Panel' where you can share your camera.

Share Your Screen

You can share your screen as well as specific applications with other meeting participants in GoToMeeting. You will first have to go to the Viewer or Control Panel.

There you will see the option to either start or stop sharing your screen and with whom to do so.

Chatting With Others

You can exchange messages with all or some of the members of your meeting through a Chat pane located in the Viewer or Control panel. You will be alerted when you receive a message even when the pane is minimized.

There is the ‘Send to' option where you can select who you want to chat with which may be everyone, organizers only or specific meeting participants.

You can access other tools by exploring the Viewer or Control Panel. If you have any issues using GoToMeeting, contact customer care.
