Introduction

If you have just finished paying off your GMAC vehicle, then it is time for you to get your lien release letter. This is a letter stating that you have fully paid off your vehicle and that the lien GMAC had on it while you were paying it off is no longer active.

What You'll Need

In most cases, you shouldn't have to do a thing to get your lien release letter from GMAC. They will send it to you automatically within 30 days of you making your final payment. The exact amount of time it will take will depend on state laws and the payment method you used. Before you make your final payment, you should make sure that the address on file with GMAC is correct, or your lien release letter may be sent to the wrong address. If your state has an electronic lien system instead of using paper titles, GMAC will notify the relevant state agency of the end of the lien on your vehicle by electronic means. If this is the case, they will notify you that they have done so via mail. In most cases, GMAC will send the lien release notification in about 10 business days after you make your final payment. Some state laws may make this take longer, though. To find out if your state has an electronic lien and titling process, and to learn how the process works if it does, contact your state's department of motor vehicles. If you need to order a replacement lien release letter, you will be required to pay a fee.To locate your vehicle's VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), look on the vehicle's registration or on your insurance card. You may also be able to find it on a sticker on the driver's side of the dashboard or on a sticker on the driver's side door jamb.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for GMAC Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
