Introduction

Mobile carriers are always competing with each other for customers, trying to lure them away with cutting edge technology, low prices, and special promotions. If you have an Xfinity account but want to switch to another mobile carrier instead, you need to contact both your new mobile carrier and Xfinity to get the process completed.

What You'll Need

Do not cancel your Xfinity service until the transfer process is complete! If you do, the transfer process will be halted and you will not be able to recover your old number.

Your phone needs to be unlocked before you can transfer to another carrier. To get your phone unlocked, you have to completely pay it off and wait at least 60 days from its activation. In most cases, your phone will automatically unlock within 48 hours of meeting the requirements without you doing anything. You will receive a notification when it does. If you have an older Android device, Xfinity will email you an unlock code.

Once you get your transfer PIN, you have 24 hours to use it. If you fail to use in within that period, you will have to request another transfer PIN.

If, for some reason, you are not able to send yourself the transfer PIN using either the website or the app, you can go into any Xfinity store and prove your identity to get one in person.

To get a transfer PIN from Xfinity, sign into your Xfinity account.

Sign into the Xfinity app.

Tap on the Services tab at the bottom of the page.

Select the Mobile Lines and Data Usage option.

Select your mobile number.

Tap on Transfer Your Number.

Select your number from the drop down menu.

You will be sent a text with the Transfer PIN.

Contact your new mobile service provider and tell them that you want to transfer your Xfinity number.

Have your Xfinity password and transfer PIN on hand when you make this call.

Follow your new service provider's instructions to complete the transfer process.

Once you finish the transfer process, Xfinity will automatically cancel your old account. There is no need to take any steps yourself to do it.

Conclusion

Transferring your Xfinity account is not a very complicated process. You should be able to complete it fairly quickly. However, if something goes wrong, you can always request help from Xfinity's customer service.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Comcast Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
