Founded in 1995, Webex is one of the oldest web conferencing platforms. Its ownership was taken over by Cisco Systems, a change that came with new corporate branding. The platform provides a wide range of video conferencing tools, including but not limited to Webex Teams, Webex Meetings, Webex Enterprise Edition, Webex Connect, and the Webex Support Center. Additional web conferencing resources incorporate Webex Training, Webex Sales Center, and the Webex Event Center.

Webex has special iOS and Android applications, which improves its convenience. The platform also allows users to make custom backgrounds. In this context, you can change your background or blur it before you've begun a meeting. You can also change, blur, or add a background image during a meeting, training session, or event following the steps outlined below.

  • Navigate to the video conferencing page.

  • While there, at the top right corner, you will notice an icon that reads "Change Background."
  • Click on it.

Once you've done that, you can;

  • Click "Blur" if you want to blur the background while still maintaining focus on yourself.
  • Choose a default virtual background by selecting the one you like from the choices provided.
  • Use your photo as the default background. To do this, click on the "+" icon. It's worth noting that Webex recommends that sing an image that's 1028 x 720 pixels. Moreover, the image should be in ".jpg" or ".png" formats.

When ready to proceed with the meeting, select "Apply." Luckily, you won't have to repeat this process since Webex will automatically remember your preferences.

With that in mind, Webex provides a few best practices that could help you distinguish yourself in a much better way, thereby allowing you to get the most out of your virtual background.

However, for you to conveniently change your background, the Webex site administrator needs to turn on the virtual backgrounds. This way, everyone in the organization can limit distractions and maintain their privacy during meetings. Also, they can blur or alter the backgrounds or even create custom ones at will. Below are some steps a Webex site administrator can follow to enable the virtual backgrounds for everyone.
