When I traveled to Holguin , Cuba on October **, **** my largest piece of baggage was left at the Toronto airport along with ** other pieces of luggage. I believe that the reason was insufficient space in the checked baggage compartment. We were not informed that our baggage was being left in Toronto but the captain of the plane ( flight ****) advised the passengers that the baggage crew was having difficulty getting all of the bags on the plane but he gave no indication that bags were being left behind. Once the plane arrived in Holguin I anticipated that I would receive my luggage but it was left behind in Toronto. I would estimate that about ** other persons on the plane were in a similar situation. There was no Westjet representative in the Airport as far as I know and the Airport customer service was very poor. The persons with roots in Cuba received much better service than others. I was finally able to file a report with the lost and found department about *.* hours after I arrived at the Holguin airport and luckily I was able to make it to the bus station on time to get my connection to Santiago de Cuba. The airport personnel had told me that Westjet would try to send the baggage on another plane but was actually * week later when the luggage arrived in Holguin. Finally I received my luggage ** days after I arrived in Cuba. The first ** days of my vacation were largely disrupted as I made efforts to locate my baggage. I made several calls to Canada and sent many messages at great expense. I estimate that my phone bill was about $***. higher than it should have been and one of my Cuban friends made about ** calls to the Holguin airport to find out the status of my baggage. There is further cost related to this. We made numerous attempts to call the West jet rep at the Holguin airport but he never answered his phone. We left a message with airport staff and he finally gave us a call. I was very disapointed with westjet's handling of this matter and as I have never previously had such a bad experience on the numerous flights I have taken with your Airline! I feel that I should be compensated for my expense loss as well as for the loss of enjoyment of a large portion of my vacation.
