Hello, I used Turbotax to file my NY State return. This was after I had already filed my federal return through efile.com. I was directed to efile.com by the IRS website as a free service. However, efile.com wanted to charge me to file my state return. I then found out that I could file the state return for free on Turbotax.com. When I submitted the state form through turbotax, a federal form was also submitted by turbotax even though I did not request this action. I have now received emails from Turbotax saying both returns were rejected. The Federal was rejected because a return had already been filed for that SSN and the State was rejected since there was an issue with the Federal return. I followed the process on the turbotax website to re-file the returns but fear they will be rejected again since no information has been changed. How do I rectify this problem? And how do I get the IRS to NOT penalize me for what I feel is and error with the turbotax site? I just checked my efile.com account and my Federal return has been accepted. How do I file the sttae return and not be penalized? Thank you, Noah Dinaso.
