Hi guys, my name is Pete Kelly and I run an educational YouTube channel called History Time. We've been absolutely crippled by copyright claims over the last week, specifically concerning the music of Derek & Brandon Fiechter. I have spoken to Brandon who was sympathetic to the situation and passed your details on to me. We are looking to get these claims removed as my channel is entirely an educational venture, which they specified was fine to use their music with. **Here is the information I have been going on over the past two years:-*This on from their YouTube profile:-*“Also, any of our music can be used for non-commercial projects or videos (whether monetized or not). All we ask is that people credit us.”**& this from their website:- http:**fiechtercomposers.com*music-license-copyright.html*“*. Free*Educational License: *Everyone is free to use our music for anything non-commercial, educational, or free if credits are given. Also, people are even allowed to use our music for monetized YouTube videos, just be sure to give a visible link to our website or to the Youtube video which has the music that you used.”**Here is the original email between me and the Fiechters:-**"Dear Derek & Brandon**My name is Pete Kelly and I run an educational YouTube channel named History Time. I have been implementing your wonderful music into my videos since I started out two years ago. I always put the proper credit in the video description with links to your songs . After looking at your description on your YouTube profile I was under the impression this was fine to do, though now, months after they were initially posted, my documentaries are being flagged one by one and claimed by ‘Tunecore’ on your behalf with all of the rather meagre ad revenue going with it. **Perhaps it was naive of me to put the music into my videos. However I am very new to all of this and did not realise the potential repurcussions. This project has taken years of research, writing, producing and editing to get to where it is now, and I have only just began to break even on the costs involved in the project. **I am the only person involved in this project and currently dedicate all of my time to it. **If my documentaries keep on being claimed I will be completely crippled financially and unable to carry on with History Time as i’ll have to find another day job. **I wonder if there is any way we could discuss this situation? Here is the situation and what happened:**Last week without warning, Youtube completely demonetized our whole Youtube channel for "reused content" even though everything on this channel is our original music. But apparently from what I've heard, Youtube doesn't allow compilations anymore. It's too bad they didn't give us a warning. This channel made us $**** or more a week, so that's a lot of revenue that was just taken away so suddenly without any good explanation. So, as Youtube really didn't give us much of an option, we monetized our music through Tunecore so that is why there are claims on your videos. Personally, we knew that it would affect people and we didn't want that to happen which is why we never did it before. This was the last resort, but it was the lesser of two evils as we would otherwise have to possibly give up producing music, or at the least, lose a huge portion of our money per week.**I hope you understand. We don't have any problem with you using our music for your videos, but we aren't in control of which videos TuneCore puts copyright claims on. We'll back you up if you try to remove the claims as we want to help. Hopefully, the claims can be removed and I'd advise you to contact Tunecore through the site below and explain the situation.
