DOR claims my return does not exist. I have a transmission number from the software My 2022 return was filed electronically and I have not received the refund

If the Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) is claiming your return does not exist despite you having a transmission number, it could be due to one of several reasons. It's possible there may be a delay in processing, or there could be a minor issue like an incorrect social security number or misspelled name. Sometimes, even though a transmission confirmation is received, it might take some days before DOR has it in their system. It is also possible that a glitch may have occurred during electronic filing. Do ensure your filing status is correct and recheck the data you entered when filing. Don't panic, as updates will be done and the issues resolved.

dispute penalty fee for quarterly payments not made

If you believe you have been unjustly penalized by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR), you can challenge the penalty. First, you must pay the penalty to prevent accruing additional interest charges. After paying, you can file a dispute by submitting an "Application for Abatement" (Form ABT). This form lets you explain your reasons for challenging the penalty. You should provide as much information as possible to support your case. If the DOR approves your application, you'll receive a refund for the amount of the penalty you had to pay. Make sure to submit your application within 3 years of the tax return due date or 2 years of the payment date, whichever is later.

How do I confirm that they have received my tax

You can confirm if the Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) has received your tax return through MassTaxConnect, the DOR's web-based application for filing and paying taxes. If you've registered for an account, you can log in to view your account history which will show all returns filed and payments made. Tax returns are generally processed within a few weeks so if your return doesn't show up immediately, this doesn't necessarily mean it hasn't been received. You should wait at least a few weeks before contacting the DOR if you don't see your return processed.
