How do I transfer the ownership of a vehicle?

To transfer ownership of a vehicle in West Virginia, you will need to complete the back of the title with the buyer’s information, odometer reading, sale price, and date of sale. Both the buyer and seller must sign the title. If there is a lien on the vehicle, the lienholder will need to release it on the title. You will also need to complete a bill of sale. Additionally, you will need to submit the title, bill of sale, and any required fees to the West Virginia DMV in order to complete the transfer of ownership. Make sure to remove your license plates before transferring ownership.
