What is the National Do Not Call Registry and how can I register my number?

Asked a year ago
The National Do Not Call Registry is a free service offered by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that allows consumers to opt out of unwanted telemarketing calls. Registering your number on the Do Not Call Registry will prohibit most telemarketers from contacting you by phone. To register, visit the FTC's website or call their toll-free number. You will need to provide your phone number and email address, which will be added to the registry within 24 hours. Telemarketers are required to remove registered numbers from their call lists and are prohibited from making unsolicited sales calls to those numbers. However, certain calls, such as those from political organizations, charities, or companies with an established business relationship, may still be permitted.
