How do I read my gas meter?

Asked 2 years ago
Reading a gas meter is a straightforward process, and it is an important skill for monitoring your energy usage and managing your bills. Most commonly, gas meters have a series of numbers displayed in a row or a dial format. For a digital meter, you will typically see a series of digits that represent the amount of gas used, usually measured in cubic feet or cubic meters. To read a digital gas meter, simply note the numbers from left to right, ignoring any numbers that appear after a decimal point. Make sure to read only the whole numbers displayed on the screen. For dial meters, there will be several dials that rotate in opposite directions. You will need to read the dials from left to right, noting the position of each needle. If a needle is between two numbers, take the lower number. If the needle is exactly on a number, check the dial to the immediate right to see if it has passed zero. Familiarizing yourself with the meter by looking at the information provided on the Southwest Gas website can be very helpful. You may find additional resources that can assist in the reading process.
