If you and your family have fallen on hard times due to the loss of a job it can be not only emotionally rough, but it can be financially rough as well depending on your circumstances. Of course, if you are not financially prepared when this happens your first though is how am i going to make ends meet. Finding another job is a great solution but as we know things are not always as easy as they sound. Sometimes, it can takes weeks and even months before you have found another job so another great and beneficial solution is to apply for unemployment. If you live in Oregon you can apply for unemployment benefits with the Oregon Employment Department. Although applying doesn't guarantee you will receive benefits, but applying will help you to see if you will become eligible for benefits and receive them if so.

How to Apply for Unemployment Benefits

The first step you want to take to apply for unemployment benefits is submitting an initial claim which can be accessed online. You will be required to create a username and password for an account. Once you have created an account you will have access to log in and submit your unemployment claim application. You will be required to provide personal information on this form which will play a part in determining whether or not you will receive unemployment benefits so you want to make sure you fill it out as accurately as possible. Another important part that this information will determine if you are eligible to receive benefits is exactly how much benefits you will be entitled to receive.

Once this has been completed, if you are found eligible for benefits keep in mind that you will have to wait a week during what is called the waiting week before your benefits start getting released to you weekly. It is also important to note that even after filing your initial unemployment benefit claim you will have to continue to file what is called a weekly claim.

This claim is to be submitted every week with the required information in order for you to continue to receive unemployment benefits and receive a benefit amount. The weekly claim can also be submitted online by logging in to your account and following the prompt to fill in the required information. If you have any trouble or more questions please reach out to the Oregon Employment Department for assistance.
