How Do I Check the Status of My Unemployment Claim with the New Mexico Department of Work Force Solutions?

The New Mexico Department of Work Force Solutions offers unemployment insurance benefits to eligible residents of New Mexico. Once your claim is approved, you are eligible for up to 52 weeks of benefits before the claim ends. Each week, you will have to file a new form to be eligible for another week of payments. After filing your claim, there will be an initial investigation, after which you will receive a Monetary Determination notice that informs you if you have high enough earnings during your base period to receive benefits. Your base period is essentially a full year, the first 4 out of the previous 5 quarters before your claim. Unemployment Benefit Eligibility Requirements in New Mexico

  • You must be unemployed for reasons outside of your control, such as a health crisis or cost cutting layoffs.
  • You must accept any job offer of 20 hours a week or more, regardless of transportation or child care needs.
  • You must have sufficient base period earnings.
  • You must apply for at least 2 jobs a week during the period of your claim.
  • You must sign up with the New Mexico Workforce Connection. This is a resource that offers a variety of services for people looking for a new job.

You will not receive any benefits for your first eligible week, because state law requires a 1 week waiting period before you can start collecting your benefits.

Checking the Status of Your Application

In order to handle high volumes of calls, the New Mexico Department of Work Force Solutions requires inquiries be made only on certain days of the week. If the last digit of your social security number is between 0 and 3, call on Monday. If the last digit of your social security number is between 4 and 6, call on Tuesday.
