Losing your job is never an ideal situation unless you win the lottery, but for the rest of the world, there is hope. Job Search ND has resources to help you understand the claims process and you can also call them too.
Through no fault of your own, you lost your job. You're also hopeful that you will find work soon, but what do you do until then? The obvious choice is to apply for Unemployment Benefits, which must be done as soon as you lose your job. This guide will show you what information you need and how to apply.
First, Some Tips
1. Your benefits are in effect the Sunday of the week you file and cannot be backdated, so it's important to file as soon as possible.
2. You are eligible if you've been let go through no fault of your own or have had your hours reduced.
3. You must also be able to, available to and actively seeking work.
4. You can either file online or by phone, but remember that the automated and the online system is unavailable due to maintenance from 10 p.m. to midnight Central.
5. You must save your information every 30 minutes, otherwise you could lose your data if you close your browser or experience any internet or computer issues.
6. Claims center representatives are available Mondays through Fridays, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Central.
Necessary Information
1. Your name, address, phone number, email address and your social security number.
2. Your employment history from the last 18 months including names, addresses and telephone numbers, start and end dates and why you are no longer working.
3. Name and number of your union.
4. DD-214 member 4
5. Both SF8 and SF50.
6. Alien Identification number from those who are not U.S. citizens.
After You File
1. You will receive a letter referred to as a Monetary Determination, it's a list of all your employers and income during the base limit of your claim. If there are problems with your wages, there is an enclosed appeal form.
2. Review the Unemployment Insurance Claimant Guide which is available online at jobsnd.com under Resources for Individuals-Claimants. You also may be able to call them here to see if they can mail you one, or if you have any other questions.
3. Filing a claim is not what triggers benefits, you must complete your weekly certifications to receive your benefits.
How to File Online
1. Go to https://apps.nd.gov/jsnd/uiiaclaims/login.htm and either log in or create an account.
2. Go to Manage My Claim and then File a Claim.
3. Review the next page carefully as it contains important information. Enter your information in each of the fields provided and then click Next/Continue to proceed.
4. You will also be asked to create a four-digit PIN and select the closest Job Search office to your residence.
5. The system will pull your employment history so it's important you review this before you proceed. You may need to check your paystubs for the name used by your previous employer if you don't recognize it. Even brief employment is still considered reported earnings. Also if you worked for the same employer but at different time frames, those timeframes must be listed separately.
6. You will have the chance to review your entries before you submit them. Simply click on the edit button if you see something incorrect.
7. You will now be taken to the Claimant Responsibility page which you can print for your records or copy and paste to a document. This page will guide you in the next steps to take for your claim. Check the box to show you read it.
