We are using TurboTax. I started working for VIPKID as a contractor with a [redacted] in July [redacted], but began in mid-August. I earned around $1,[redacted] and had about $[redacted] in out-of-pocket expenses, not including using a room in my house as my office. Combined with my husband's income and my 2 other 1099s, we expect a return of about $2,[redacted] (my husband only claims one). Under the new tax law, TurboTax is recommending taking the standard deduction, which seems beneficial for us. It seems we can still claim job expenses for VIPKID, but it would require upgrading to a different version of TurboTax for $40. With only around $[redacted] in expenses, I'm unsure if it's worth it. I am unsure of the deduction for the room in my house. Should we proceed with the current filing or upgrade? Should we track all expenses next year for VIPKID? I arranged to repay my student loan through Action Financial Services with Carla Ellington at $5.00 per month since October [redacted]. The first payment was made on November 7, [redacted]. I have yet to receive a letter from the IRS regarding them deducting my refund to settle the debt. Following my filing of the [redacted] form on January 30, [redacted], I anticipated a return of $10,[redacted] after accounting for tax preparation fees and a $[redacted] advance. However, IRS2GO notified me that my return was reduced by $9,[redacted].31 to cover a past due obligation. They mentioned that the BFS would notify me officially about the deduction. I am unsure if these two occurrences are linked and would appreciate clarification on the matter.

Despite providing documents each year, I encounter the same issue and have to go through a lengthy process with the IRS to get an adjusted return. Even though I was told the problem would not persist after [redacted] and [redacted], I am facing it again this year. My son's last name was changed due to established paternity, making it challenging for me to file taxes effortlessly. I was told that the issue would be resolved in the spring of ****, but the same problem occurred again in the spring of **, despite going through the process once more. This ongoing inconvenience is frustrating, considering my son was given his father's last name due to paternity. It shouldn't be so difficult each tax season. Regarding my [redacted] Individual Tax Return, my late father and I co-owned a duplex, each with a 50% share. We jointly paid $[redacted],[redacted], $60,[redacted] each. Unfortunately, after his passing in Nov [redacted], my accountant did not adjust the basis for the inherited part of the property. During this year's tax preparation, my daughter noticed this oversight. I need guidance on rectifying this issue. Can I file Form [redacted] to amend the [redacted] return and potentially recapture lost depreciation? I lack the Fair Market Value (FMV) at the time of death but was advised that the FMV could be roughly 80% of the Tax Assessment available through the county's website. I have terminated my relationship with the previous accountant and want to avoid undue capital gains due to someone else's error. The accountant was aware of my father's passing when preparing the return. Any assistance or additional advice on this matter would be highly appreciated.

I recently called to inquire about my taxes. The representative I spoke with, identified as "Roy," was unable to answer my questions and refused to transfer me to a manager or provide any contact information for escalation. The call began at 12:49 p.m. CST and ended at 1:03 p.m. CST today.
Despite my insistence on speaking with a manager to address my concerns, Roy was unhelpful, unprofessional, and ultimately hung up on me. She suggested I visit the website for information, but could not guide me on where to find the answers. I had already searched the IRS website to no avail, hence my call for assistance. She advised me to call back later, failing to offer any further help.
Her attitude was rude and dismissive, leaving me feeling like just another call to rush through. I am left concerned about potential errors in my taxes due to the lack of assistance. The inconvenience may lead me to seek legal advice, incurring unnecessary costs that should be the responsibility of the agency.
I believe the behavior I encountered is unacceptable from a government agency and seek a resolution to this matter promptly. Thank you for your attention.

I filed my tax return electronically. I checked the refund status on 02/23/[redacted] and got a message regarding Tax Topic: [redacted] - Know Your Rights to Appeal. It stated that I would receive a notice within 30 days via mail from the IRS explaining any changes to my refund.

Hello, I'm Tara H. My son's father, Jonathan M. K., and I had an agreement that I would claim our son on my taxes this year. After filing with H&R Block online, I was rejected. Jonathan falsely claimed I was rejected due to a tax advance he received. He advised me to refile without our son. Upon investigation, I discovered that he claimed our son behind my back. I would like guidance on how to claim depreciation for a new $12,[redacted] Air Conditioning System (a Mini Split ductless Heating and AC System) that was installed in my vacation rental to replace the previous one. I am using TurboTax, which provides two asset classes: 1) rental property (useful life of 27.5 years) and 2) carpet, furniture, and appliances (useful life of 5 years). Given that the building is 50 years old and doesn't have ducts or existing HVAC, should I stick to these categories or use a different one? Previously, I had a similar AC system for 12 years before replacing it.

As of today, the 27th, uncertainty prevails about the final destination of my funds. Hello, I am seeking some assistance regarding my tax refund. TurboTax advised me that I would receive my refund on the 25th. However, my refund status has not changed since the IRS accepted my return on February 4, [redacted]. Both my wife and daughter filed after me, and they have already received their refunds, which makes it perplexing that mine has not been processed. I am currently facing an issue with the IRS holding my family's tax returns. The tax returns in question belong to my parents, P. M. and H. M., as well as myself. While my parents file jointly, I file separately.
The IRS is withholding the returns due to a reported debt to the Department of Education for which my parents were co-signers on a loan totaling $7,[redacted]. This debt has already been paid in full through monthly payments and years of tax withholding. The payment completion is reflected on my credit report that previously showed the impact of the debt. I have been experiencing difficulties contacting you to correct an error in my financial aid application for school. I mistakenly indicated that I filed taxes in [redacted] when I have never filed. My refund has not been deposited into my bank account yet, even though it was accepted at the beginning of this month. I had to download an app to track my refund, and I found out that the IRS is holding refunds for those claiming the child tax credit until the 27th. Today is the 28th, and I still haven't received my refund. I need to know why there's a delay or an alternative option to pay my bills. If the IRS insists on holding my refund, I am willing to provide my bills for them to pay directly. Today is the last day I have insurance, and the delay is causing me financial strain. I believe if the IRS can contact people who owe them, they should also address concerns promptly. I will continue to reach out until my refund is deposited as it should be.

I turned 80 this April. In April [redacted], a tax attorney advised my husband and me that with our low adjusted gross income of $28,[redacted], we were not required to file taxes with the IRS. Unfortunately, my husband passed away in April [redacted], resulting in a further decrease in my income. Since [redacted], I have not filed my taxes and annually checked with the attorney's office, receiving confirmation each time. I recently sold my home for more than I bought my new one to be closer to my son, investing all the money from the sale into the new property. When I was younger, my identity was stolen back in '96. The culprit, who used to work for Tyson Foods, had accessed my social security number and birth certificate. The issue was semi-resolved then. However, after a few years, I started receiving IRS tax charges from various states, including California, where the same person had used my identity at Tyson Foods for about 7 to 10 years. Despite trying to address the problem, it resurfaced two years ago when I was informed that I owed $53,[redacted] to the IRS.
