We are currently filing jointly for our rental income, treated as passive income to avoid self-employment tax in the past. This year, I intend to pay self-employment tax exclusively for myself to enhance my social security benefits. I am looking to maximize contributions to my 401K and pension plan, which is not feasible under passive income guidelines. How can I segregate our rental income to classify it as self-employment income while maintaining our joint filing status? Would issuing a [redacted]-misc to myself based on our shared [redacted] be the appropriate approach? Considering my husband's age of 73, there is no advantage for him to continue paying FICA taxes.

As a U.S. citizen residing in the UK, I earned GBP £4,[redacted] in [redacted], which equals $5,[redacted]. I am trying to file my taxes online using TaxAct but do not have a W-2 form as I did not earn any income in the US.
I have a few questions:
1. Where should I report my UK income? In the past, I filled out Forms [redacted] and [redacted].
2. Do I need to file a tax form given my income is below the threshold?
3. I provided all details on Foreign Bank Accounts and balances on TaxAct. I also submitted my FBAR separately. Should I submit my tax form online without income, only reporting interest earned?
4. Is there a way to speak with someone regarding this? If possible, please provide a contact number or address my above queries.
5. Would it be best to complete the paper tax forms, as I have done for the past 9 years living in the UK?
Thank you,
M.W.

I sent my [redacted] tax return by mail on 03/30/20, as electronic filing wasn't an option for a prior year return. I have been consistently monitoring the IRS online "where's my refund" tool, but it does not show any information yet. Should I consider resending the return, fearing it might be lost in the mail? I believed that at least the acknowledgment of receipt would be displayed. Interestingly, my state return, which I also sent on the same day, was deposited into my account within 10 days.

I am in search of assistance in locating a downloadable version of Schedule C form (Profit or Loss from a Business) that I completed for my [redacted] tax filings. I was successful in obtaining a copy of my [redacted], however, I now require the Schedule C form for my unemployment claim with the Texas Workforce Commission. After enduring three months of inconsistent communication with them, I remain uncertain about my approval status. The impact of the pandemic has left me without work and lacking income, heightening the urgency for me to determine my eligibility for pandemic assistance.

I received my [redacted] Economic Stimulus Payment from the IRS, but it was mistakenly deposited into Bank of Republic. After contacting the IRS, I was told to reach out to the tax preparation service, Tax Act, as they received my direct deposit. The IRS assured me they could electronically transfer the payment to my correct account to avoid any further delays. However, when I called Tax Act for support, the automated system mentioned that Bank of Republic received some stimulus payments and would return them to the IRS. I need the payment to be transferred to my updated account with Tax Act as I no longer reside in NY and cannot receive checks at that address.

Hi, I rely on TaxAct annually to submit my tax returns, which are then processed by Republic Bank. Presently, my stimulus payment is with the IRS awaiting reissue to the bank. I lack an active checking account, instead, I use my Serve card for all tax refunds. How can I ensure Republic Bank has the correct routing and account numbers to facilitate the deposit of my stimulus?

In my initial filing, I mistakenly entered my [redacted] Adjusted Gross Income, leading to one of the reasons for the rejection. The software flagged an issue stating that both my Federal and State taxes were filed together on both platforms, which seems to be a software error.
After accurately updating my [redacted] Adjusted Gross Income to match the form precisely, I encountered a second rejection citing the same reasons - incorrect [redacted] data entry and both forms being filed together.
I would appreciate guidance on resolving this matter promptly. Thank you for your attention and support!
Best Regards,

I am having trouble accessing my TaxAct account as I no longer have the phone number for verification texts or full access to the email linked to my account. I can't recall my username. I was close to giving up hope on receiving my [redacted] return until I got my state refund by mail recently. I need to log in to update my deposit information since I no longer have that card. I want to add a new direct deposit account or switch to paper check delivery, as I successfully received my state refund this way. Please contact me via email at [redacted] or phone at [redacted]. My name is Megan Johnston Starling (formerly Allen) and I appreciate your assistance with this matter.

I am having trouble printing my tax returns. I can no longer access my federal return and have not been able to view my state of Illinois return. Previously, I could only view my federal return, which indicated a refund of over $5,[redacted]. I paid a $19.95 fee for the state return, and received confirmation emails from TaxAct that both returns were submitted and accepted. Despite logging in numerous times, I cannot find a solution. I have been a loyal TaxAct user for 5 to 6 years and have never encountered this issue. I appreciate any assistance. Thank you.

I encountered a significant issue with TaxAct. While working on my taxes, I typically pause and resume my progress. This time, I proceeded to E-file after expecting a $[redacted] refund. When I sought to print my return, my printer was out of ink, but upon resolving this issue, I noticed discrepancies. The initial [redacted] displayed only social security expenses, resulting in the projected refund. However, TaxAct inadvertently moved me to another [redacted] form with $[redacted] owed, including the [redacted] entries. I realized I was charged twice for the forms, causing me to submit conflicting returns to the IRS. It seems like an error occurred during the process, and I urge TaxAct to rectify this situation promptly and address the matter with the IRS.

I began working on my taxes as I do every year. Everything seemed fine until I noticed that my return said I was due $[redacted]. I realized that the [redacted] information wasn't on the [redacted] form. After sending one file, I returned to find another [redacted] that seemed more complete. The program somehow switched me to a different form mid-process. Despite already paying, I was charged twice for the service. I submitted the second [redacted], which now shows I owe $[redacted]. I mailed it to the IRS and hope they will accept the second one as it had more accurate information. I wish the program had alerted me about the duplicate filing and the additional charges. I hope this issue can be resolved promptly. Thank you.

I used TaxAct this year as I do annually. After entering all my information, I noticed an $[redacted] refund but couldn't print due to an issue with my printer. I proceeded with E-filing the [redacted]. Upon printing later, I was shocked to see only my social security benefits of $24,[redacted] without any [redacted] details. I then completed another [redacted] which still seemed incorrect. Despite the program indicating it was ready to submit, I decided to mail one copy and E-filed the other that showed the $[redacted] refund. Now I'm concerned about what went wrong as it appears TaxAct had me create two 1040s unknowingly. The lack of guidance or alerts in the process was frustrating. Additionally, I struggled to find help from TaxAct's support, which lacked human assistance and only offered automated responses.

My federal return was rejected twice due to what the IRS claims is a mismatched AGI. I have double-checked and confirmed the AGI using both a paper copy of last year's return and an IRS transcript. I have been filing returns for my family for years without any issues, except for this case where the previous year's return was filed on paper, resulting in no PIN. As an experienced IT professional using tax software for many years, this appears to be the only difference. TaxAct software is not allowing me to refile without changing the AGI or PIN, even though both are accurate. The error code displayed is IND-[redacted]-04. I contacted TaxAct via email over a week ago but received a generic response regarding state returns, showing a lack of attention to my specific issue. Despite sending two follow-ups, I have not received any further assistance. I am seeking either a resolution to this problem or a refund.

To the technical department:
I am reaching out regarding a persistent issue I have encountered while trying to complete my tax return. When prompted to attach a supporting document, specifically "Add Federal Revenue Procedure [redacted]-38 - Section 199A Trade or Business Safe Harbor Rental Real Estate," I experienced a glitch. Despite successfully selecting my file (titled IRS STATEMENT for [redacted].doc) by clicking the 'CHOOSE FILE' button, the system stalls upon hitting 'FINISH.' An error message pops up within the processing screen, instructing me to try again later. This technical setback has persisted for two days now, hindering the filing process. I kindly request assistance in resolving this matter to enable smooth processing of my return.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Warm regards,

I recently had a conversation with a representative regarding an issue with my Virginia tax return preventing me from filing while using the software. Even after confirming that the return was accurate, the software still wouldn't allow me to proceed. I was promised a call back from a manager during the week, which I never received.
I would appreciate it if you could either file my returns electronically on my behalf or issue a refund so I can try using TurboTax instead.
If you need to contact me today (4/16/21), please reach out to my work cell phone at [redacted] as I have left my personal cell phone at home. My preferred contact number is usually [redacted]. Please note, I cannot access my personal email from work but can do so once I am home.

Hello tax techies,
I am currently working on a trust return and struggling to access form [redacted] in TaxAct. It seems that I might need to input information from another software company into TaxAct to proceed. While I could potentially use the [redacted] forms available on your website to report the sale of collectibles, I find the process quite confusing. This year, I'm unsure if this method will be effective for me.
I understand that you are busy during this tax season, and my inquiry may have come a bit late. Ideally, I would like a straightforward confirmation that TaxAct supports form [redacted] and functions well with trust tax filings. Unfortunately, I did not receive the necessary [redacted] forms from the corporation handling precious metal transactions.
If you could provide guidance on locating the forms window or offer assistance over the phone, that would be greatly appreciated. I hope to hear back soon.
Thank you,
Doug M.

I submitted my [redacted] taxes on 4/21 with the refund set for direct deposit into my checking account as usual. Typically, I receive my refund within a couple of weeks after receiving confirmation that it was successfully filed with the IRS. However, this year, my tax return has not been deposited yet, and the "where's my refund" tool keeps stating it's still being processed. I tried calling the IRS to speak with a representative but only got automated responses. I then reached out to TAXACT for assistance. Unfortunately, they were unable to provide a solution immediately and gave me additional IRS phone numbers that led to the same automated message.
Since my husband recently had significant dental expenses in preparation for hip replacement surgery, scheduled for 6/7/21, we are reliant on this refund to cover our property taxes and upcoming reduced income during his recovery. Expedited processing of our return is crucial. Any help in speeding up this process would be greatly appreciated.
Please update me on any progress at my phone [redacted], via text at [redacted], or email [redacted] Thank you for your anticipated support in resolving this matter promptly.

Today, I reached out to the State of MN regarding my alleged filed MN taxes through TAXACT. For the tax year [redacted], they were never actually filed. Due to my printer being out of ink at the time, I couldn't print a copy. I managed to get a copy of my Federal Taxes for [redacted] online, but to print my MN State taxes, I was prompted to pay $39.95. After contacting the State of MN Revenue Department, they clarified that my State Taxes for [redacted] were indeed not filed. This issue has also prevented me from applying for a renter rebate as my MN State Taxes remain unfiled.
