I recently received Form A1 from HMRC as I am working part-time in the UK with occasional travel to France and the Czech Republic. I do not work or live permanently in either country. I submitted the form to the HR departments at both universities I work for. France was not an issue, as social security deductions are no longer taken from my pay. However, Brno University in the Czech Republic informed me that they require a letter from HMRC UK to confirm that they do not need to deduct social security/healthcare contributions and send them to HMRC in the UK. Despite Form A1 stating clearly that I have no obligation to make contributions to another state, they are still deducting. I have shared the response from the HR department at Brno University with you. Can you please review this information and let me know if I require a letter from you to confirm their request? Your guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Eddie F.

Good morning, I submitted a request for Form u1 (statement of national insurance contribution) about a month ago. I have left the UK and am eagerly awaiting this form, as offices here in Slovakia require it for registration purposes. I would like to inquire about the processing time for this form and whether I correctly applied for it. I have attempted to contact HMRC three times but have been on hold for over two hours each time without any response. Please provide me with this information as soon as possible. My insurance number is SS851797B. Name: Silvia Ballova Date of Birth: 14.06.[redacted] Thank you in advance.

Good afternoon, I am seeking advice on how to claim back SSP for employees in isolation. One of our employees recently tested positive for Covid-19 and gave us a self-isolation note. Subsequently, her husband tested positive as well. Despite her Doctor's advice to isolate for another 14 days, she was not given another sick line and was advised to get a new self-isolation note for payment during her extended absence. Can we claim back SSP for both of her isolation periods, considering the standard guidance found online only mentions up to 2 weeks of isolation? Thank you, Pamela Doyle

I am self-employed and my business has been negatively affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. The self-employment grant payment I received was based on the past three years, which included a period when I was also part-time employed. However, since April [redacted], I have been fully self-employed. I would like my grant assessment to consider my current situation accurately by reflecting my total business losses as a full-time self-employed individual. Please review my [redacted] to [redacted] tax return for reference. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Best regards, Y. Khouri-Bent

I require assistance regarding self-employment. As a landlord who manages my sole property and handles tasks like repairs and finding tenants, I am unsure if I am considered self-employed. Although I have not paid taxes as a self-employed individual before, can I now identify as self-employed? My primary income comes from renting out the property. The decrease in rental income due to the virus has pushed me below the tax eligibility threshold. Am I entitled to self-employment support from the government? I am optimistic about recovering my rental income once I secure more tenants, possibly by June or July. At that point, I aim to no longer require assistance. What steps should I take in this situation? Thank you.

I sent a letter dated April 2, [redacted], to "PAYE Self Assessment, HMRC" requesting a tax refund for payments received from my employer for traveling to a temporary work location. I recently received a reply dated May 7, [redacted], from a Customer Services Team Leader who misunderstood my request. I am only seeking a tax refund for the travel time to temporary work locations, not for the work done there. I am still requesting a refund for the tax paid for travel time as outlined in my initial letter. Sarbjeet A., NIJA042218C Email: [redacted] Reference: DMS[redacted]27

Hello, I am seeking assistance with registering for the government gateway as advised by my accountant. I am encountering an issue where I input my incorrect date of birth initially, but when I try to verify my identity using my passport information, which has the correct details, the system does not allow me to proceed. It keeps logging me out and instructs me to try again in 24 hours. The date of birth HMRC has on file for me is 16/02/[redacted], while my passport correctly shows 06/02/[redacted]. I have attempted to contact them by phone, waiting for over an hour, and have also tried unsuccessfully online for the past two days. My National Insurance number is WL410811B, and my name is Zuhre Mehmet. If possible, could someone please contact me at [redacted]5. Thank you for your help.

Since April 1st, I have been on furlough, and I only received one email indicating my furlough period would be reviewed after three weeks. I am unsure about the current minimum period required for furlough. Is it still in blocks of three weeks and is written confirmation necessary for each period? Today marks the end of my second furlough period, and my employer mentioned on the phone yesterday to continue as we are, but might ask me to return next week. I work as a service engineer and cannot work from home, and with most customers closed, there is limited work for me to resume just yet. Thank you for any assistance.

I recently took over handling my payroll from my accountant who managed it since [redacted]. I have 5 employees to enroll in the job retention scheme but can't access PAYE for employers on my HMRC account. My Gateway User ID is [redacted]79. When I try to log in, it asks me to register for PAYE for employers to apply for the scheme and use an existing payroll system. I can't access PAYE with my ID and password. My employer's ref number from the P60 is [redacted]/AZ57733. To set up QuickBooks, I need the HMRC office number, accounts office reference, and Employers PAYE reference. I tried to register for PAYE online and received acknowledgment 5X7W A6E6 Q449 H9W but HMRC says I already have a scheme and to contact the Employer Helpline on 0[redacted] for help.

My wife passed away on April 6, [redacted], and as her husband and executor, I initiated the online application for the Marriage Allowance in her name to transfer an allowance of £[redacted] to me for the [redacted]/21 tax year, per my accountant's advice. Although we completed all financial details, the application failed during the identity verification step when I provided her passport information. It seems HMRC couldn't locate the details, possibly due to me submitting the "Tell us once" form after her passing, leading to the cancellation of her passport. The application was under the name of my wife, J.M. Salem NI YK913497A. I would appreciate assistance in proceeding with this Marriage Allowance application. Thank you. L. Salem NI ZX275793A.

I received a letter stating that I have been overpaid from April [redacted] to April [redacted] since I have been repaying a debt from December [redacted] to December [redacted]. I am only receiving £6 per week, which I started receiving recently. I am certain this is an error since my husband and I earn enough not to be eligible for tax credits. I would appreciate a thorough investigation into this matter as I do not owe anything. Please remove my details from your system as I do not want to receive any further correspondence regarding this issue. The situation is causing me significant stress, and I would like to resolve it promptly. Kindly contact me via chat as soon as possible.

Dear HMRC, I opened a small restaurant in December [redacted] but have not personally earned enough to file a tax return. As I was building up the business and living off it in a small way, I want to inquire about the income support scheme. Due to the pandemic, my hospitality business had to close temporarily, and I plan to reopen after the situation improves. Despite being a new business, I believe I should qualify for some assistance. Your help would be appreciated. Thank you, D. Bailey

Hello, I have been self-employed for six months now and recently completed my tax return for [redacted]/20. In the past, I was always employed, and I believe that if I were still employed, I would have received 80% support. Similarly, if I had been self-employed earlier, I would have also received this support. I can't help but feel penalized for starting my self-employment journey recently, especially when I have consistently paid taxes throughout my employment history. With a new baby and a toddler to care for, I am finding it difficult to make ends meet, especially with work on building sites suspended. I would appreciate it if you could advise me on any possible options to receive the 80% support given my current situation. Thank you, C. S.

I forgot to submit details for one employee using Basic PAYE tools for the correct tax year. When I tried to send it later as an earlier year update, it was not accepted. I have attempted to contact HMRC through a web chat without success. Any suggestions on how to proceed? This issue is preventing me from closing the tax year and updating new payments.

I recently received a letter about my tax return. A few weeks ago, I called to explain my situation. I had a bad injury last year, which forced me to stop my business before starting. I incurred around a £[redacted] loss. Despite this setback, I plan to keep the business open and hope to resume once I've recovered. I want to either carry the losses forward or offset them against my current employment. After checking, it seems I may not need to submit a self-assessment tax return based on the information provided. Due to the current circumstances, it's been challenging to call for confirmation on whether I still need to submit the tax return.

My partner's tenancy ended on the 4th of April, but due to lockdown restrictions, he couldn't move out. He left to stay with his parents while his belongings remained at the property. With lockdown restrictions easing on the 13th of May, they packed up everything, and the removal company is set to arrive tomorrow. The landlord is now claiming he owes 2 months' rent, stating there was no notice of him leaving the residence, even though new tenants are already lined up and aware of his belongings in the property. Where does he stand legally on the issue of having to pay rent for a property he was not living in nor bound by contract to live in?

Hello, I need to report a potential fraud case. I received a letter from HMRC stating that a tax refund of £3,[redacted].45 has been claimed in my name but deposited into a different account. I have not applied for a tax return as I have been in Romania for the past two years and do not possess a UK bank account. The individual committing the fraud has been submitting tax returns and fraudulent claims for the last three years using fake documents, as they have never held a job in the UK. Despite contacting HMRC twice to report this, I have been unable to pass the security questions as the fraudster has altered my contact details. I have not worked in the UK for over two years, yet this person continues to claim money under my name. I am looking for assistance in closing my UTR to prevent further fraudulent activity. I have also reported this to the police and have obtained a reference number. Can someone please advise on how to proceed? Thank you.

Dear Sir/Madam, I have been trying to reach HMRC for several weeks, but every time the line is busy, incorrect information is provided, or the call is abruptly ended. I am inquiring about the status of my marriage allowance check, which is overdue by more than the stated 2-week timeframe. I am concerned whether it has been dispatched, lost, or delayed due to COVID-19. If necessary, I will escalate this matter to the ombudsman regarding the non-receipt of the check. Best regards, Julie

I received a phone call on March 24th informing me of being placed on furlough. In late April, an email was sent stating payment for 8 out of my 10 contracted hours, but I clarified that this was incorrect. After discussing with the employer and their Accountant, a corrected payslip was issued. Following another reminder, the employer mentioned a lack of funds before eventually confirming the payment via email. During our conversation, she also mentioned closing the business. On April 18th, I got an NHS shielding letter. I delayed sharing it with the employer, awaiting details on the business closure which I am unable to locate now. I contacted my doctor for a copy of the letter or a sick leave certificate, yet to receive it. A defamatory email suggested sick pay instead of furlough, but I clarified being well and following lockdown guidelines. Lately, she has been urging me to return to work, even threatening unpaid leave next week. Feeling stressed, I'm unsure of my next steps. Communication has primarily been through emails to maintain a record of our discussions.

Hello, at the start of the year, I requested my pension payout from Reassure where I've had a pension since [redacted]. Despite receiving the money with taxes deducted, Reassure also sent me 3 copies of a P45, which they claim they don't provide. They suggested contacting you about this issue. I'm currently employed at Sainsbury's for 16 years and don't plan to retire from there or touch my pension with them or any other pensions. I would appreciate your advice on how to handle these extra P45 forms sent by Reassure. Thank you. -- Miss Veronica N. (NA696771B)
