You try to log into your Uphold account only to find you have been locked out of it. What do you do next? Why was your account locked? How do you unlock your Uphold account? Why Uphold Locks Accounts

First, it's important to understand why Uphold may have locked your account. There are several reasons accounts can be locked or frozen. These include the following:

1. Compliance Regulations/Safety: Uphold is a business, and as such, has to follow compliance guidelines to keep you and your assets safe. If any of those codes of conduct aren't followed, your account may be blocked or restricted.
2. Risk Detection: If Uphold's system detects any suspicious activity, it may freeze your account to protect your assets.
3. Protects Your Assets: To help prevent individuals from losing all their assets in money laundering or money muling incidences, Uphold can lock your account when it suspects you have been coerced into money muling or laundering money.
4. Law Enforcement Request: Law enforcement can request an account lock or freeze in the course of criminal investigations.
5. High-Risk: If you have been identified as a high-risk customer, your account may be locked to protect others.

Unlocking Your Account: What to do Next

When you find your account has been locked, what do you do next? To unlock your account, follow the steps outlined here:

1. Open Uphold in your browser.
2. Select "Submit a request" in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
3. Key in the email address linked to your Uphold account.
4. Select the appropriate option under "How can we help?"
5. Type "Unlock Account" in the "Subject" field.
6. Under "Tell us a bit more about how we can help you." write a brief account of the issue at hand (locked account). Include as much information as necessary to resolve the matter.
7. Attach supporting documentation to support unlocking your account. This includes a copy of your government-issued identification, a photo of you holding a handwritten sign with the date and time, and additional supporting documentation such as bank statements or letters from your attorney.

Your request will be reviewed by Uphold customer support and you will be notified of the decision via email. Unlocking your account can take some time; however, while your account is under review the assets in it will remain to safeguard them.
