What Questions Should I Ask Starry When Shopping for an Internet Provider?

It's not always easy to shop for an internet service provider, especially if you're not sure what to ask. However, learning all the facts first, including what services the provider offers, is key to getting the best deal. To make an informed decision on which internet provider to go with, here are some good questions to ask.

What are Your Charges and Fees?

Of course, everyone is going to ask Starry about how much they charge for the services provided, but there are also other charges you need to ask about. Such as how much does it cost to install Starry, are their rental fees for equipment needed for the service, and does your price ever go up?

Are There Data Limits?

Unfortunately, if you don't get an unlimited plan, internet service providers limit the data you use for the internet. These restrictions are called data limits, and while some may provide soft data limits, others may offer hard data limits or no data limits at all.

Whether your data limit is hard or soft, you may only get a specific amount of usage with your plan. Thus, after you use up all your data, a soft plan allows you to continue using the internet, only it runs much slower. A hard plan charges overage fees or may cut you off completely.

Do You Use Speed Throttle?

It's important to read the fine print before purchasing anything, so you know exactly what you're getting with no surprises. Some internet service providers say they don't have data limits, but they throttle speeds, which is basically the same thing. This means that your speed slows down during network congestion or after reaching your limit of data usage with a soft data plan. Check with the provider to find out about throttling.

What Speed Options Are Available?

Keep in mind that internet providers offer different speed options and the higher your internet speed, the more it can cost you, so you need to decide which speed option is right for you. Moreover, your speed is determined by the amount of downloading and streaming you do, as well as the devices used. To stream HD videos, at least 5 Mbps of internet download speed is recommended by Netflix. Because internet providers offer different speed options at different pricing, this is one question you should always ask.

Do I Need To Sign Any Contracts?

Incidently, contracts can have anything written in fine print. That's why it's important to read through them completely, no matter how long they are, so you know what your commitments are. In addition, Starry may offer special discounts or incentives for signing with them, like lower monthly rates. You also want to know what Starry's process is if you decide to cancel early.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Starry Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
