Squarespace provides software for building and hosting websites, and many people use it for making business or art pages for themselves. If you have built a website using Squarespace and want to prevent people from stealing the images you have on your site, then you should consider disabling the right click option on all of the images. This will help, though not completely prevent, image theft from your website. Just follow these instructions.

  1. Go to Squarespace's home page.
  2. Click on the Log In link in the upper right hand corner and log in to your account.
  3. Click on the Settings option in the Home Menu.
  4. Click on the Advanced option.
  5. Click on the Code Injection option. The Code Injection page will open up, displaying the code for your web page.
  6. Copy the code for disabling the right click located here.
  7. Paste it into your code after the tag.
  8. Click on the Save button. The right click function should be disabled for all images on your website.
  9. While this procedure will disable the right clicking options that include the Copy Image function, it is not possible to totally prevent people from copying images from your site. They can still take screenshots, for example, or use sophisticated programs to overcome the disabling of the copy image option. There are two other things you can also do to help protect your site against image theft. The first of these is to add watermarks to your images. A watermark is a semi-transparent logo or text that will identify the image as yours even if it is stolen. You can also keep your image files below 500kb in size. The images will still look great on your site, if you keep them to 1500 pixels by 2500 pixels, but will be too low resolution to be suitable for printing.

If you still have concerns regarding image security, or if the above instructions do not work for you for some reason, you can call Squarespace's customer service line, use their email support, or their Live Chat function. Contact information for all of these options can be found here.
