If you want to check your balance for your unemployment benefits with the Minnesota Unemployment Assistance office, you can easily do so depending on how you chose to receive your benefits.

Direct Deposit

Minnesota allows recipients to receive their unemployment benefits via direct deposit. Set this up when first filing your claim, or update your profile afterwards. If you opt for this, then checking your benefits is easy - just check your bank balance like you would normally.

ReliaCard

If you chose not to use direct deposit, then the state will issue you a debit card through U.S. Bank. This card may be used at any place which accepts Visa cards. You may also withdraw cash from ATMs, though this may incur a fee.

This card must be activated before use, by either calling (855) 282-6161 or visiting the ReliaCard website. Once your card is activated, you have several ways to check your balance.

Checking Online

Log in with the information you provided when activating your card. From here, you can check your balance, review recent transactions, or access old statements. You can also set up either text or email alerts.

Mobile App

Download the U.S. Bank ReliaCard app from either the Apple Store or Google Play. This app allows you to manage your account, and helps you locate nearby ATMs.

Text/SMS

Be advised that your carrier may charge you fees. Using the online portal or web app, you can set up a variety of text alerts; such as when funds have been added to your account or if it gets too low.

You can also send the following texts to 90831:

  • Text BAL to check your balance.
  • Text TRANS to see your recent transactions.
  • Text HELP to connect with a customer service representative.

Other Questions

If you have other questions about your benefits, such as your total allotment per week, you can find this out by going directly to the Minnesota Unemployment Assistance office. You will need your Social Security number and your current account password. If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it by answering your security question or calling customer service.

The state allows you to check your unemployment benefits by either phone or online.

By Phone

Minnesota has two separate phone numbers to call, based on where you live. You can access services in English, Hmong, Somali or Spanish (if you need another language, call to arrange for an interpreter). Here's the phone number for Twin Cities customer service, and here's the phone number for customer service in Greater Minnesota. If you need TTY services, call (866) 814-1252

You may have to navigate an automated menu, but will eventually be connected to a customer service representative who can help you check your unemployment benefits.

Online

Log into the state website. On your home page, you should be able to check your weekly disbursement of unemployment benefits. If you have questions, call the above numbers for assistance. Remember you have to log in at least once a week and claim unemployment benefits in order to receive them.
