How Do I Check My Unemployment Benefits with the Indiana Workforce Development?

This article describes how you can check on your unemployment benefits application status with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development offers unemployment benefits for Indiana residents who meet eligibility requirements. Once you send in your application, it will undergo an initial round of processing, after which the Indiana Department of Workforce Development will send you a notice about the information they will use to determine your eligibility. You will then have 10 days to correct any mistakes. After a second round of processing, you will be sent a Determination of Eligibility notice to let you know the outcome of your application. Unemployment Benefit Eligibility Requirements in Indiana

  • You have to have become unemployed through no fault of your own, such as because of a national health crisis or budget-related layoffs.
  • You have to actively look for work.
  • You must make yourself available for work.
  • You must have made at least $2,500 during the previous 6 months.
  • You must have made at least $4,200 during the last 5 quarters.
  • You must have earned a total of at least 1.5 times your wages in the highest of the last 5 quarters.

There is a mandatory 1 week waiting period, so you will receive no benefits for your first week of eligibility.

Checking the Status of Your Application by Email

  1. Compose an email to send to AskUIContactCenter@dwd.IN.gov.
  2. In that email, state that you are a claimant.
  3. Include the last 4 digits of your social security number.
  4. Include your zip code.

Checking the Status of Your Application by Phone

  1. Go to this page: https://www.in.gov/dwd/2328.htm.
  2. Look under the Before You Call header on the left of the page to determine which day of the week you should call, which is determined by the first letter of your last name.
  3. Call this number between 8 am and 4:30 pm on the day you determined in step 2.
