can I connect a new dexcom7 receiver ( reader) to my sensor a month or so after i've been using a smart phone to get my glucose readings?

Yes, you can connect a new Dexcom G7 receiver to your sensor even after having used a smartphone to get your readings for a while. To do this, you will first need to ensure that your receiver is charged and ready to use. You'll then start a new sensor session via the receiver using the same code that you used when you started this sensor on your smartphone. The key is to keep the sensor and transmitter active, so the newest device can access the same data. As always, make sure to keep all of your devices updated to the latest software versions to ensure compatibility and accuracy.

I need another sensor. Mine ran out

Sure, if your Dexcom sensor has been used for its full duration or is no longer working, you'll need to replace it with a new one. You should have received enough supplies when you started using the Dexcom CGM system to last for your prescribed usage. If you've run out ahead of time, you may need to place an order for more sensors. Depending on your health insurance, you might be able to order directly from Dexcom or you would need to contact your pharmacy or medical supplier. Be sure to keep track of your supplies so you can order ahead and never be without a working sensor.
