How do I Recover my AT&T Password?

Most people today can't get through the day without their cellphone or tablet. These amazing handheld devices keep us connected in a variety of ways, and checking your accounts is as easy as keying in your username and password. However, in a digital world, you may have multiple passwords that you are trying to remember, and forgetting one is not unusual. For example, you may want to check your AT&T account, but you cannot remember your log in information. Don't despair; recovering your AT&T password is an easy process. You can get tech support to reset your password here, or you can follow the steps outlined below.

Resetting AT&T Password Online, Via Text:

  1. Open the log in screen on the AT&T website.
  2. Select "Forgot Password?" This will open a new window.
  3. Enter your User ID (this can be a User ID you have set up or your mobile number).
  4. Enter your last name.
  5. Select "Continue."
  6. AT&T will then prompt you to choose how you want to reset your password. You can choose to have a code sent to you via text, email or you can answer the security questions that you set up when you opened the account. Also, you can click on "see all options" if you have multiple lines on your account.
  7. If you choose to reset by text, select the number you wish to receive the text on and hit "Continue." AT&T will send you a temporary password that you will then enter into the box on the screen that comes up. Once you've entered that number, select "Continue."
  8. Enter your new password the top box.
  9. Confirm your next password in the bottom box and choose "Continue."

You have now successfully reset your AT&T password and can log into your account.

  1. If you choose to reset your password via email, select "Email to..." and "Continue."
  2. AT&T will send you a six-digit temporary password. Enter that into the box provided and hit "Continue.
  3. Enter your new password and confirm the new password in the boxes on the page, then select "Continue." You have successfully updated your password.

Password Reminders

Remember, when you are recovering or resetting your AT&T password, make sure your new password is not something easily guessed. Use a mix of upper and lower-case letters, numbers and symbols to make your password unique.

If you are not near a computer or cannot successfully recover or reset your password from the AT&T website, you can call Customer Service here. By following these steps, you will not find yourself locked out of your account.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for AT&T Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like AT&T in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our How Do I Recover My AT&T Password? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
