Bottom Line: *Rentalcars.com charged me to rent a car in Australia with Europcar. When I arrived to pick up the car, Sandra at Europcar refused to rent me the car because I told her I would review Europcar poorly online. She also refused to document her refusal. Supposedly, she “put a note in the computer” but I’ve received no refund or contact from Rentalcars.com. **Details:*On the evening of June **, I booked a car with Europcar through *Rentalcars.com for a trip from Cairns to Brisbane Australia, leaving the next morning. The confirmation clearly stated both the price of the car and the pick up and destination points. Therefore, it appeared quite clear how much I was paying and what I was receiving both prior to and following my purchase.**The next morning when I looked at the fine print, I became concerned, as there was some reference to a possible one-way charge. I called Europcar at the number provided to ask whether there would be an additional charge. Sandra, the woman I spoke with, told me there might be but she couldn’t tell me for sure or how much until I came in. I became quite concerned, as I really couldn’t afford an additional charge and would have to take an expensive Uber with four pieces of luggage to Europcar just to find out the status. Obviously, I wouldn’t have rented the car if at any point it had been specified that I would have to pay more for drop off, but it was also clear that I would be offered no refund if I canceled. Though I was polite and soft-spoken, I did use a curse word - not toward Sandra, but toward myself: I said, “So, I’m f-ed?” This detail will become an important later.**When I arrived at Europcar, Sandra informed me that at drop off, I would have to pay more than double the original rental fee stated on Rentalcars.com because it was a one-way trip. Again, I was obviously distressed. I’m traveling for a year and this is simply not an expense I could afford. All the same, I was calm and soft-spoken and used no harsh language when speaking with Sandra. **Still, Sandra was angry at my use of the curse word on the phone and because I told her I would review this experience with rentalcars.com and Europcar poorly online. She refused to rent me the car. She also refused to document her refusal. Though I was calm, quiet, and polite, she called the police to have me removed, as I wouldn’t leave without documentation. ** After over an hour wait, the police arrived. They actually tried to help me but couldn’t get Sandra to either provide the car or provide documentation of her refusal. They did supposedly get her to “put a note in the computer” but I have no evidence of that.**At that point, I had to leave. I went next-door to Hertz, rented a car directly for a very reasonable price, and went on my way.**My credit card was charged for the car on June ** and I have since received no contact from Rentalcars.com and no refund. The car is to be returned on June **, and I don’t know if Rentalcars.com intends to charge me again at that point.**I want my money refunded immediately and I also want an apology.
