I was preparing to send this email to Viking customer service:
In [redacted], my husband and I were invited by good friends, B. and G. M., to book a Great Lakes Viking cruise together for the summer of [redacted]. G. Miller, a retired Navy chaplain and veteran, along with B. Miller, a nurse who served as Parish nurse at various places, were our companions. Regrettably, we had to cancel as G. unexpectedly passed away due to sepsis following treatment for a rare leukemia. Subsequently, we rescheduled our cruise for July 7, [redacted], and offered to cover B.'s expenses. However, we were informed by a Viking representative in December [redacted] that there would be a single supplement required. Later, when we tried to reserve a single cabin for B., we were informed that there was no single option available, and we would have to pay for two passengers instead. While we understand the cost difference for a single room versus a couple's fare, paying for two seems unreasonable. We kindly ask for an exception to be made for this bereaved passenger who has suffered a significant loss with the sudden passing of her husband of 55 years.

I fully paid for an Eastern European river cruise (Ref #[redacted]) with Viking River Cruises from Sept 17, [redacted], to Sept 28, [redacted]. Before the trip, the statement included a $[redacted] charge for "accommodations". I assumed this covered all accommodations as I paid in full. However, at the end of the cruise, I was billed $85.19 on my Visa for an overnight stay at the JWMarriott in Bucharest, arranged by Viking. They also booked the Hotel Corinthia in Budapest before the cruise, but there was no additional charge. If a charge was expected in Bucharest, why wasn't it included in the prepaid "accommodations"? I believe I deserve a refund or credit to my Visa account. I'm not very hopeful, but I want to raise my concern.
