UAMS Medical Center Customer Service Issues

I was discharged from the hospital last Monday after undergoing surgery with a Traumatologist due to complications from a previous accident. The surgery involved removing hardware, bone fragments, infected tissue, and inserting a rod. However, post-surgery management of my pain was severely lacking. Despite assurances of pain control, I experienced excruciating pain and was given inadequate pain medication. Different doctors visited me daily, offering to increase my pain medication, but it was not done consistently. Due to low blood pressure, I was denied stronger medication, and even after receiving a blood transfusion, my pain relief was insufficient. At discharge, I was only provided with a small amount of OxyContin, which has left me struggling with managing my pain. I believe proper pain management is a fundamental aspect of patient care, and the current situation feels unacceptable and inhumane.

I encountered a problem during my scheduled infusion appointment because I brought my two children with me. The facility denied me entry, leaving me unable to receive my essential treatment. This was distressing as it involved a six-hour round trip and incurred extra gas costs. As a single mother with no assistance, this situation was particularly challenging. I feel that the facility did not offer me appropriate accommodations as a disabled individual under the ADA regulations. All that was needed was a separate room for the duration of my infusion, and my children were well-prepared with snacks and drinks in their backpacks. The initial treatment staff was unwelcoming, leading to a distressing experience that left me in tears, despite the support of two fellow patients. I urge the facility to rectify this issue promptly.
